Battlefield 6 Dev Discusses Why He Thinks the Game Will Be More Successful Than Battlefield 2042

A producer at DICE is optimistic that the upcoming release of *Battlefield 6* on October 10th will perform much better than *Battlefield 2042* did. Following a positive open beta test in August, *Battlefield 6* is now one of the most highly anticipated games launching in October. The studio is confident in this launch, learning from the difficulties experienced with *Battlefield 2042* and incorporating feedback from players.

When *Battlefield 2042* launched in November 2021, DICE had big hopes for the game. However, the massive maps designed for 128 players and the absence of a single-player campaign weren’t popular with longtime *Battlefield* fans. This was reflected in the game’s user reviews, which currently give it a 2.4/10 rating on Metacritic. As a result, DICE is now rethinking *Battlefield 6*, aiming to create a game that appeals to fans and is even being developed with their input.

Battlefield 6 Returns to the Basics and Involves Player Feedback

In a recent interview with PCGamesN, DICE producer Jeremy Chubb explained that while *Battlefield 2042* was a bold attempt, the next *Battlefield* game will focus on the strengths of earlier titles. Chubb specifically mentioned that the new game is heavily inspired by *Battlefield 3* and *Battlefield 4*, two of the most popular and highly-rated games in the *Battlefield* series. He stated that elements from those successful games will be very prominent in the upcoming release.

Chubb highlights that both DICE and EA involved players in the development of *Battlefield 6* through Battlefield Labs. He notes the incredibly positive response following the *Battlefield 6* beta. According to Chubb, this collaborative approach has given the team confidence. Battlefield Labs allows them to share early, sometimes unfinished, versions of the game with players, and work together to shape the development process.

DICE’s efforts to deliver a Battlefield experience fans would love proved successful in August. The game’s open beta became the biggest in the franchise’s history, reaching a peak of 473,632 concurrent players on Steam during its first weekend. According to Chubb, the team’s hard work resonated with a dedicated fanbase. “We already knew there were a lot of Battlefield fans,” Chubb stated, “and they’re incredibly passionate about the games we create.”
