The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

As someone who has witnessed the depths of human depravity firsthand through my work as a defense attorney, I can confidently say that the villains in the Ace Attorney series are some of the most despicable characters I’ve ever encountered. Each one of them has left a lasting impact on me and the world around them.

In the Ace Attorney series, the compelling stories and unforgettable characters keep audiences engaged. Every murder case presents unexpected plot twists, along with a colorful array of witnesses, suspects, and victims. However, it’s often the hidden truth that becomes the focal point in this courtroom saga of truth versus deception.

The villains in the “Ace Attorney” series exhibit a wide range of reasons for their criminal actions, with some being pitiful characters driven to crime due to fear or necessity. The majority, however, are completely self-centered individuals who falsely accuse innocent people of despicable crimes they have committed. Among all the murderers this franchise has introduced over the past 23 years, these particular criminals stand out as the most evil.

7 Kristoph Gavin

The Devil You Know

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

In the intriguing opening of “Apollo Justice,” fans found themselves taken aback by unexpected twists. The charismatic Kristoph Gavin, who seems like Apollo’s mentor, bears a striking resemblance to Mia Fey from the initial trilogy. However, as the game unfolds, it is shockingly uncovered that this very man had orchestrated the murders under investigation.

From that point on, the game’s last case reveals further atrocities committed by Kristoph in the name of self-preservation and prestige. He went to great lengths to conceal his wrongdoings, including planning the murder of an innocent 13-year-old girl. While many Ace Attorney characters have been accused of taking lives, the notion of child murder has previously been a taboo among them.

6 Queen Ga’ran Sigatar Khura’in

One Slippery Sovereign

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

In simpler terms, Queen Ga’ran of Khura’in isn’t just exempt from the law; instead, she personifies it. Her orders are considered authoritative as soon as they’re penned down. Throughout “Spirit of Justice,” players uncover all the deceitful acts Queen Ga’ran committed to amass her absolute power, and the lengths she goes to in order to maintain it.

Her husband may not be financially well-off, but he possesses a commendable trait – a deep love for their adopted daughter, Princess Rayfa. In contrast, Queen Ga’ran doesn’t place value on family bonds. Her sole focus is on amassing power.

5 The Phantom

Gaze Into The Endless Abyss

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

there exists no authentic self to discover. The Phantom, a criminal by name, abandoned their personal identity long ago, erasing it to effectively execute their missions.

As a seasoned investigator with years of experience under my belt, I’ve encountered my fair share of heinous criminals, but none quite as chilling as this Phantom character. He took things to a whole new level with his calculated and cold-blooded acts of murder and international terrorism.

4 Redd White

He Deserves Being Beaten Red, Black, and Blue

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

Redd White from Bluecorp amassed his fortune by threatening and extorting hundreds of wealthy, influential individuals with their hidden scandals. This deceitful enterprise, which has brought misery to countless lives, was responsible for the tragic loss of Mia and Maya’s mother, Misty Fey.

Mia made a heroic effort to make White accountable for his actions, but tragically, he took her life instead. Wright was left without a guide, and Maya lost her dear sister. This man boasts shamelessly about his wealth as his sole purpose in life. Even with an awareness of the pain he’s caused, he continues to act with unjustified arrogance.

3 Matt Engarge

Soulless and Two-Faced

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

At first glance, Matt Engarde comes across as a shallow and good-looking celeb, the type of wealthy actor who appears amicable yet detached from everyday life. However, this charming demeanor is merely an act in his profession as an actor.

At his core, Matt Engarde is a hideous beast who pushed an innocent woman to the edge of destruction, subsequently arranging for the elimination of his greatest competitor. He epitomizes the degeneracy of fame: a wealthy man more concerned with preserving his image than anything or anyone else. His supposed care for others is merely a facade; they are but disposable instruments in his self-serving machinations.

2 Manfred von Karma

The OG Baddie Of The Entire Series

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

Manfred von Karma is as terrifying as the legend of the Demon Prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth. With a career spanning over 40 years, this man has secured convictions for every defendant he’s faced in court. His tactics, ranging from merciless to unlawful, are all driven by his obsession with achieving perfection.

When Gregory Edgeworth, Miles’s father, made the slightest blemish on Manfred’s impeccable reputation, the consequences were catastrophic. This event set off a chain reaction that significantly impacted the course of the series’ plotline, causing harm to numerous characters. Manfred’s name is synonymous with terror. The relationship between him and his hero-worshipping daughter, Miles, is more of a formality than genuine affection.

1 Dahlia Hawthorne

People Are Not Always Who They Appear To Be

The Most Evil Characters In Ace Attorney, Ranked

Dahlia Hawthorne might seem charming and attractive, but beware her deceptive appearance. Beneath her angelic exterior lies a ruthless and remorseless killer, holding the record for the most fatal crimes in the annals of the Ace Attorney series. She has used poison, knives, and manipulation to orchestrate crime after crime, all while maintaining a sickeningly sweet grin.

And while other Ace Attorney villains only had ill intentions towards specific people, or were corrupted by power, Dahlia has no excuse for her behavior. Sure, her upbringing wasn’t easy, but her crime spree began as early as 14 years old. By her own admission, she’s always been a demon. Even death couldn’t contain Dahlia Hawthorne’s evil forever.
