During a Nintendo Direct presentation on September 12th, Nintendo announced plans to celebrate the 40th anniversary of *Super Mario Bros.*, including the reveal of *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie*. They also confirmed that *Super Mario Galaxy* and *Super Mario Galaxy 2*, two popular games originally released on the Wii, are coming to both the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. While *Super Mario Galaxy* was previously available as part of *Super Mario 3D All-Stars*, this new release will add support for Amiibo figures, more pages to Rosalina’s Storybook, and an Assist Mode to help players through difficult sections.
Super Mario Galaxy Ports Look Washed Out Compared To Original Versions
Before the release of *Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2*, some fans noticed the Switch versions didn’t look quite as detailed as the original games. One user on the Mario subreddit shared screenshots comparing the upcoming ports to the Wii and previous releases, specifically highlighting differences in textures. They pointed out that a metal bridge in *Super Mario Galaxy 2*’s Boulder Bowl Galaxy had fewer details and looked flatter in the Switch version compared to the original Wii game.
In the Switch 2 version of *Super Mario Galaxy*’s Good Egg Galaxy, the ground textures sometimes looked more detailed than in the *Super Mario 3D All-Stars* version. However, the water and grass appeared more detailed in the Switch 2 version. Some players noticed these differences and questioned Nintendo’s attention to detail, but others believe the gameplay shown in the September 12 Nintendo Direct might not represent the final game. Therefore, it’s best to view these comparisons cautiously.
As a big Mario fan, I’m a little worried about the upcoming remakes of *Super Mario Galaxy* and *Super Mario Galaxy 2*. Some early looks haven’t been great – the graphics seem a bit uneven, and honestly, $70 feels like a lot. It’s still too early to say if the final game will be worth it, but a lot of fans are already feeling uneasy about it.
