As a long-time Mortal Kombat fan, I’ve watched Takeda Takahashi evolve from a promising newcomer to a complex character with a rich backstory. In the previous timeline, Takeda was Kenshi’s son and grew up in the peaceful world of the Outworld Investigation Agency. But with Mortal Kombat 1’s reboot, NetherRealm Studios has given us a fresh take on this beloved character.

The revamped Mortal Kombat universe, introduced in Mortal Kombat (2019), has given fresh perspectives on beloved characters. Latest update unveils the role of upcoming DLC character Takeda Takahashi within this new narrative. Wielding kunais, Takeda is a newcomer from Scorpion’s Shirai Ryu lineage, initially introduced in Mortal Kombat X (2015) as part of the “Kompetitive Edge” or “Kombat Kids,” a group of young heroes linked to iconic Mortal Kombat figures. In Takeda’s case, he is the son of Kenshi Takahashi, who was originally part of the main Mortal Kombat 1 roster.

In the revised storyline of “Mortal Kombat 1,” the portrayal of Kenshi from “Mortal Kombat 1” underwent a significant transformation. Previously, he was part of Jax’s Outworld Investigation Agency. However, his new background reveals that he was once a member of the Yakuza and yearned to leave his criminal past behind. Desperate to restore his family’s honor, Kenshi embarked on a new journey and encountered Liu Kang, who had recently formed a group dedicated to protecting Earthrealm. Armed with the Sento, an ancient katana that once belonged to his ancestors, Kenshi joined forces with Liu Kang’s team. This revised history for Kenshi raises intriguing questions regarding how Takeda will adjust in this altered “Mortal Kombat 1” timeline. To clear up any doubts, NetherRealm has now shed light on Takeda’s role prior to his upcoming DLC debut on July 23.

As a big fan of Mortal Kombat, I was thrilled when Eurogamer revealed some exciting changes to the backstory of one of my favorite characters: Takeda. In the new lore, Takeda is no longer Kenshi’s son but rather his cousin, both raised together in the Yakuza.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Takeda Is Now Kenshi’s Ex-Yakuza Cousin

Because of the danger that Takeda would be eliminated for not completing his task, Kenshi prevented his cousin from departing the Shirai Ryu. Over time, Takeda became motivated by Scorpion’s ninja gang and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding Earthrealm. He subsequently embarked on a new assignment with objectives akin to Kenshi’s, aiming to eradicate Earthrealm’s criminal network from its roots – even if his biography acknowledges that this was no simple feat.

As a gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on the latest developments in Mortal Kombat 1, and I’m excited to share some intriguing insights about Takeda’s backstory!
