As a dedicated Pokemon GO player with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of frustration when hearing about the latest Special Research task that has left some trainers stuck. The allure of Special Research tasks is undeniable – they offer opportunities to catch legendary, shiny, or even debut Pokemon, making them an essential part of any serious player’s journey.

A recent Special Research project has left some “Pokemon GO” enthusiasts stumped as they’re required to capture Emolga. Ordinarily, players discover new creatures in the wild while playing “Pokemon GO.” However, research projects present unique opportunities to acquire rare and special Pokemon, including legendary ones, shimmering variants, or those newly introduced in Niantic’s game.

As a dedicated gamer of Pokemon GO, I can tell you that this game comes with an array of research types to keep things engaging. Among these, there’s the Special Research, which sets me on more complex and intriguing quests led by Professor Willow. The rewards may take longer to obtain, but they are definitely worth the effort. For instance, remember when we all teamed up for Diancie’s global debut during the Glitz and Glam Special Research? And at Pokemon GO Fest 2024, new Special Research was unveiled, but unfortunately, some of us encountered difficulties with one particular task.

Some Pokemon GO players encountered an issue while completing the Special Research “The Dawn of a New Discovery.” In this task, they were required to catch seven Emolgas. A Reddit user named leroyyrogers was among these players and chose the Emolga path with the intention of simply obtaining the Pokemon as a reward. However, he was taken aback when he found out that catching an Emolga was a necessary step to finish the Special Research. Emolgas were introduced in Pokemon GO during the Unova Week event in 2020, but due to their rarity as Flying/Electric-type spawns, locating them can be quite challenging.

Pokemon GO Special Research Confuses Some Players

The experiences of the OP (original poster) are not unique, as other commenters on their post have shared similar occurrences in Pokemon GO. One player reported that Crabrawler appeared abundantly but then only Emolgas showed up once they followed the selected path. Another trainer mentioned that after selecting Ducklett’s path, they no longer encountered the Water/Flying-type Pokemon. Some players using Incense during GO Fest had to wait for hours to make progress in their tasks, while others were more fortunate and didn’t face as many difficulties.

Similar to other research projects, Pokemon GO users who have accessed The Dawn of a New Discovery survey don’t need to rush as there’s no deadline. Completing it at their own pace comes with encounters with Emolga, Ducklett, and Crabrawler as rewards. Additionally, reaching the second phase grants an exciting chance to catch Cosmog. This is a valuable opportunity since Cosmog can evolve into Lunala or Solgaleo – bringing players closer to acquiring Necrozma’s fusions in Pokemon GO.
