Okay, so as you get further into *Silent Hill f*, you’ll meet this really creepy guy wearing a fox mask, and he wants you to follow him. When you do, you’ll notice a ton of these wooden Ema hanging around – they’re seriously unsettling and definitely caught my attention! That’s where the second puzzle starts, and you play as Hinako trying to crack the combination to a lock. Basically, this guide helps you solve the Shrine Vault Puzzle you find on the Shrine Path in *Silent Hill f*. It’s a tricky one, so it’s good to have a walkthrough!
This puzzle is designed for the Hard difficulty level, and we’ll be adding the solutions for the easier puzzles shortly.
How to Complete Shrine Vault Puzzle in Silent Hill (Shrine Path)
When you first try to open the Shrine Vault, Hinako will point out that a part is missing. You’ll need to find this missing piece – along with the code – to unlock it, but luckily, they’re connected. After saving your progress at the Hokora, head back to the laughing Inari statue by following the wooden plank path on the left.
Okay, so a little cutscene just popped up showing a red doll holding something. You *have* to interact with it – that’s where you’ll find the key clue to solve this puzzle. Once you read what it says, get ready, because a seriously creepy enemy shows up! You’ll need to use your Kaiken to take it down.

This enemy has two main attacks to be aware of. The first is an overhead strike – you can block it by pressing R2 or RT on your controller when you see a red glow. The second is a nine-hit combo that finishes with the same overhead slam, which can also be blocked in the same way.
Wait for the enemy to raise its guard, then quickly perform a counterattack followed by three strong attacks – R1/RB. Repeating this sequence a few times should defeat it.
The enemy won’t stay down for long – it will quickly recover. That means you need to solve this puzzle fast! And if you can do it without taking any damage, you’ll earn a special reward.
Now that you’ve handled the immediate threat, go to the Emas and search for any with Lightning, Decayed Tree, or Kudzu. The doll’s clue mentioned those specific items, so keep an eye out for them.
Kudzu looks like a pink flower with a lot of green leaves around it.
When you find an Ema, turn it over to see a symbol. After you’ve flipped all three Emas, you’ll receive the Combination Lock Dial and the correct symbols for the three terms from the clue. Keep in mind that the Emas aren’t grouped together-you’ll need to search the area to the left of the main gate in the Shrine to find more hanging Emas, as well as an Omamori.
Head back to the Vault Shrine and enter the following sequence:
- Circle with two small lines inside.
- Circle with a curved vertical line and a horizontal line going outside the circle.
- A square with a reverse capital J in between.
You’ve solved the puzzle! You’ll receive the Stone Key, and after a brief cutscene, this chapter will end.
