Silent Hill f is a scary psychological horror game where the main character, Hinako, is deeply affected by the horrors she faces. As you play, Hinako will encounter terrifying creatures, and each attack she suffers will slowly drain her sanity. Once her sanity is gone, it becomes much harder to survive.
In *Silent Hill f*, your character’s sanity is a key part of how the game works. It’s not just a meter to keep filled-maintaining your sanity also unlocks powerful attacks against enemies. This guide explains how the sanity mechanic functions and how to recover your sanity when it’s lost.
How Does Sanity & Focus Work in Silent Hill f?
So, in *Silent Hill f*, there’s this new thing called Sanity. Basically, it lets me use a special ability – Focus – to charge up and land really powerful hits that can easily knock enemies off balance. But here’s the catch: using Focus a lot drains my Sanity meter pretty quickly. If my Sanity drops to zero, instead of messing with my head, enemy attacks will start directly hurting my health, which is definitely not ideal!
In *Silent Hill f*, the Focus ability gives players a significant advantage in battles. It extends the time you have to parry, allowing for easier counters. You can also hold the Focus button to build up power for a stronger attack – just press the light attack button when the charge dial is full.
Players will lose sanity in the following cases.
- Using the Focus ability depletes the Sanity bar.
- Getting hit with psychological attacks from enemies decreases Sanity.
- Getting hit while using focus reduces max Sanity. (Hard Action difficulty or above)
Most enemies will try to break Hinako’s focus with attacks like powerful strikes, grabs, or unsettling screams that can throw her off balance. Beyond direct combat, the game features areas marked by red colors or spider lilies. These locations gradually drain Hinako’s Sanity, adding a sense of urgency and a time limit to your progress.
How to Restore & Increase Max Sanity in Silent Hill f

In *Silent Hill f*, players need to replenish their Sanity to use the Focus ability. Here’s how to do it once it’s gone.
- Avoid using the Focus ability for a while to regenerate Sanity. (Story action difficulty only)
- Rest at a Hokora Shrine to restore both Sanity and Health (Story action difficulty only). On higher difficulties, you can choose the clear mind option and spend some Faith to restore Sanity only.
- Consume items like Divine Water or Ramune to restore max Sanity.

If you want to increase max Sanity in Silent Hill f, here’s what you’ll need to do.
- Use an Omamori charm like “Bamboo” to increase your maximum Sanity. You can get the Bamboo Omamori via the “Draw Omamori” option at a Hokori Shrine.
- Find Blank Ema tablets that you can use at Hokora Shrines to “Pray” and increase your max Sanity stat (costs Faith too).
