As a gamer with a hectic lifestyle, I’m always on the lookout for games that offer a relaxing and non-intrusive experience. Recently, I came across “My Little Life,” a desktop companion that lets me watch my little human characters live their lives at the bottom of my computer screen. With its work-from-home careers and self-sufficient characters, it’s an idle game that caters to my busy schedule perfectly.

In a nutshell, “My Little Life” is a desktop application where you oversee the daily lives of your tiny human characters positioned at the screen’s bottom. As players, we can customize their homes, cater to their needs, help them progress in their careers, and facilitate social interactions. Unlike games such as “The Sims,” “My Little Life” allows observing multiple characters simultaneously. While the concept may seem reminiscent, the core gameplay diverges significantly. Unlike “The Sims 4,” which emphasizes commuting to work, “My Little Life” introduces a variety of work-from-home careers.

In a recent conversation with Game Rant, the sole developer of “My Little Life,” Stevie Andrea from the game’s team, discussed the various employment opportunities presented in the game. She emphasized that it aims to provide a soothing and unobtrusive gaming experience. Moreover, Andrea highlighted that players can control several characters and mentioned other non-player characters (NPCs) within the game.

My Little Life’s Work-From-Home Career Approach

Andrea shared his reasons for opting for work-from-home professions in “My Little Life” instead of traditional 9–5 jobs in most video games. He pointed out that keeping characters on-screen is essential in this game, unlike in titles like “The Sims,” where careers and time management are structured differently.

In simpler terms, I haven’t felt the need to rush time in this game as I dislike how in “The Sims,” when two characters have different work schedules, one character disappears for extended periods while you focus on the other. However, all the careers I’ve picked so far allow me to work from home.

Andrea pointed out that work-from-home professions allow for better management of the self-sufficient characters in “My Little Life.” Unlike many life simulation games, where players have extensive control, these characters largely take care of themselves. Regarding the practicalities of career advancement and time management in this game, Andrea provided further insight.

Having good-quality food or a comfortable bathtub allows people to spend less time attending to their basic needs and more time focusing on their careers. However, this advantage is lost when they leave home, and since they don’t have to leave, they also don’t need to rush time.

My Little Life’s Career Options And Secondary Characters

In relation to the careers depicted in “My Little Life,” Andrea explained that these could encompass any profession where one can work remotely. This includes but is not limited to positions such as artists, writers, broadcasters, or researchers. As the character advances in their career, they experience improvements in their abilities, receive promotions, and earn more income to enhance their home environment.

Andrea explained that players have the option to bring new characters into the game by arranging the correct set of objects. Characters may also venture out of their familiar abodes to socialize with others. Players even have the ability to generate secondary characters and establish distinct areas for them to inhabit.

In “My Little Life,” you’ll encounter numerous NPCs for your characters to engage with, including the mailman, neighbors, and more, offering enjoyable interactions. Additionally, you have various display choices, such as a camera mode that tracks the player-controlled character, adding to the experience. Given our hectic modern work schedules, this engaging and low-pressure idle game seems like an excellent choice for players to immerse themselves in, whether for short or extended periods of time.

My Little Life is currently in development.
