Kojima Productions recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with an event called Beyond the Strand, where they shared updates about their future projects. The biggest reveal was OD, their next game, which appears to be a very scary experience. Fans have been eager for news about OD, and it seems to be inspired by the critically acclaimed P.T. demo that Hideo Kojima previously created.
As a huge fan of Hideo Kojima, I’ve been really looking forward to seeing what he creates now that he’s independent from Konami. I loved both *Death Stranding* games, and the idea of him returning to the horror genre with *OD* has me very excited. After the cancellation of *P.T.*, which became a viral sensation, I was a little worried *OD* might not live up to expectations. But based on what I’ve seen so far, the game looks very promising.
P.T. was originally a demo designed to generate excitement for the upcoming game Silent Hills, which would have featured Norman Reedus. However, Konami and Hideo Kojima ended their working relationship, resulting in the cancellation of Silent Hills. This ultimately led to the creation of Death Stranding, where Kojima and Reedus collaborated once again.
OD Might Finally Satisfy the P.T. Craving I’ve Had for Over a Decade
Spine-Chilling First-Person Horror
Players who experienced the *P.T.* demo remember it as a terrifying and suspenseful experience. It skillfully combined shocking moments with a creeping sense of psychological dread. Though several games, including indie titles like *Visage*, have attempted to recreate its atmosphere, *P.T.* remains a uniquely frightening and unforgettable game.
Similar to the original *P.T.*, *OD* is played from a first-person viewpoint, but the connections go much deeper than that. The initial look at *OD* included unsettling baby imagery, hallucinations, impressive sound, and a haunting presence following the player. It really feels like Hideo Kojima is now able to fully realize his vision for *P.T.*, and as both a horror fan and a big admirer of Kojima’s work, it was a highlight of the Beyond the Strand presentation for me.
The teaser for OD’s “Knock” features Sophia Lillis attempting a frightening ritual. Udo Kier and Hunter Schafer also star in the film.
OD’s Sneak Peek Raises Even More Questions
The initial reveal of *OD* at The Game Awards 2023 piqued my interest, but the latest trailer has completely captured it. Now I’m left with even more questions! From the enigmatic red tarot card to the obscured information at the trailer’s start, I’m hoping Kojima Productions shares more details soon.
During the livestream, the official poster and cast for the spy thriller *Physint* were revealed. However, fans will have to wait even longer for that show than they will for *OD*. Currently, *OD* doesn’t have a confirmed release date, meaning it could be another year or two before it’s released.
As The Game Awards approach, Kojima Productions might have a few more announcements up their sleeve, but we’ll have to wait and see. I’m hoping we finally get a release date for *OD*, or at least another glimpse of the game, though that might be too optimistic. *OD* is still a mystery, but it seems Kojima is trying to recreate the atmosphere of his original horror demo and fully realize its potential.
