Palworld launched in early 2024 and quickly became popular. Pocketpair, the game’s developer, first announced it back in 2021. The game is an open-world adventure inspired by Pokémon, but with a unique twist: it combines monster collecting with crafting, gathering resources, and even using guns. It’s a fresh take on the genre and is now playable on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Even though *Palworld* is still being developed, its creator, Pocketpair, has already revealed a new game called *Palworld: Palfarm*. While there’s no release date yet, the first trailer suggests a more laid-back experience set on the Palpagos Islands. Based on what we’ve seen and the game’s description, there’s a lot to look forward to.
Pals Can Talk
Is This Animal Crossing?
The trailer opens with a speech bubble from a character named Cattiva, and the overall style immediately feels similar to the *Animal Crossing* games. Cattiva mentions owing a debt and starting a new life in a village – a common storyline in *Animal Crossing*. However, instead of playing as Cattiva, you play as a human who also moves to the island. Although Cattiva’s dialogue is a bit cryptic, the trailer confirms that the Pals in the game can talk, suggesting players will be able to have conversations and interact with them.
The Top-Down Perspective
A Less Complicated Gameplay Style
Top-down games are often appealing to players who aren’t used to 3D graphics. The complexity of 3D can be daunting for some, which might explain the popularity of relaxing life simulation games like *Stardew Valley*.
The game lets you explore a town and its surroundings from an overhead view. The trailers and description show that the game features changing seasons, with visuals like colorful autumn leaves and snowy landscapes. A neat feature is the ability to build a snowman during the winter, adding to the enjoyable gameplay.
Farming Activities
And Non-Farming Activities
Players will naturally spend time farming around their village. Growing crops is a key part of any life simulation game. You’ll also be able to gather resources like wool by shearing your Pals, and they can even lay eggs – sometimes with a Pal inside!
In addition to farming, players can gather resources by mining, fishing, and chopping wood. These are familiar activities from life simulation games, and it’s great to have them back – fans would likely miss them if they were absent.
Multiplayer And Marriage
Hand In Hand
Marriage is a common feature in life simulation and role-playing games. Popular examples include *Stardew Valley* and *My Time at Sandrock*, but the option to get married has existed in games for a long time – even classic titles like *Dragon Quest 5: Hand of the Heavenly Bride* included it.
I was so excited watching the *Palfarm* trailer, and there’s this quick scene of what looks like a wedding! I’m really curious if those are just villagers you meet in the game, or if it’s actually other players getting married. The Steam page says the game *will* have multiplayer, which is awesome. And get this – there’s a shot of people riding Pals! So, mounts are definitely happening, and that’s a huge win for me!
The Shops
Some Normal, Others Mysterious
In addition to friendly Pals acting as characters you interact with, *Palworld: Palfarm* will feature shops run by talking Pals. These include a florist, a blacksmith, and a familiar black market merchant from the original *Palworld*. Interestingly, this merchant is the only character shown with a gun, which is a bit strange given the prominence of guns in the game’s teaser trailer. How the game’s economy will work and how many shops will be available at launch – whether in Early Access or the full release – are currently unknown.
Pals Can Still Be Caught
How Will It Work?
The trailer featured a player catching a Pal, suggesting that players will be able to capture and train them, similar to the original game. We also saw a Pal laying an egg, hinting at breeding possibilities. The strongest evidence for this feature comes at the end of the trailer, where an NPC is shown being caught, implying that anything can be captured.
The trailer presented this as a short, cinematic sequence, so it might have just been a playful tease. However, if players really can capture NPCs, that would be a major feature, potentially allowing them to affect things like how shopkeepers operate. It’s exciting to consider the possibilities, but the exact details of the NPC-catching system in *Palworld: Palfarm* are still unclear, though it’s confirmed to be included in the game.
Combat Is Still An Option
But No Eating Pals

The trailer doesn’t show any fighting, but the game’s Steam page says combat will be back. You’ll be able to fight wild Pals that wander the island. While fighting in the original *Palworld* was action-based, that might not be the case in *Palworld: Palfarm*.
A recent glimpse of a merchant wielding a gun suggests that shooting might be included in the game, which would be a welcome addition. It will be interesting to see how combat works when viewed from above. Role-playing game enthusiasts would likely be thrilled if *Palworld* incorporated turn-based battles.
