Best Pure Soul Bismuth Build in Shape of Dreams

As a player, I think Bismuth is the most beginner-friendly character in Shape of Dreams, and it’s all because of how versatile she is. Unlike everyone else, she’s really hands-off in battles – her book fights automatically most of the time! There’s even a build where you basically just focus on moving and dodging, which is amazing if you’re still learning the ropes.

This Bismuth build for *Shape of Dreams* focuses on constantly using her abilities-you won’t even need to press buttons for them! While automatically casting abilities might not always be effective, Bismuth is powerful enough to pull it off.

Best Pure Soul Autocast Bismuth Build in Shape of Dreams

Before we get into the details, all you need to make this build work are the following:

  • Pure Soul (Traveler Memory)
  • 100 Memory Haste (Cooldown Reduction)
  • High Ability Power
  • Self-Writing Story (Unique Bismuth Destruction Star)

Focus on increasing your Ability Power and Memory Haste using Chaos orbs. Also, aim to have around 1000 Health points before facing the final boss.

Bismuth begins with a skill called Pure Soul, which becomes more powerful as you increase your Ability Power. It normally has a 7-second cooldown, but you can significantly reduce this time by increasing your Memory Haste and using cooldown-reducing Essences.

The ‘Self-Writing Story’ upgrade lets Bismuth automatically use her abilities, significantly reducing their cooldowns. While active in combat, you won’t be able to manually activate most abilities, but this is a minor trade-off. You’ll unlock this at Bismuth rank 30.

These elements are essential to the build’s foundation. Everything else is pretty adaptable – feel free to choose what you like or whatever random chance gives you during a playthrough.

Even if you’re new to *Shape of Dreams*, you can still use this strategy, even without the Self-Writing Story ability.

Flexible
Star Effect
Say Hello To My Little Friends! Increase Pure Soul’s cooldown by 1 second, but the number of soul missiles it fires increases based on your attack speed.

You also have a bunch of options to consider here:

  • Use Enlightenment to gain bonus attack speed when you dismantle Memories/Essences. This will reduce your Dream Dust gains, but it will make your book and Pure Soul hit significantly faster later in the run.
  • Equip Good Material (Imagination) to further increase Dream Dust gains when dismantling.
  • Use Beginner’s Luck (Imagination) and buy Essence of Flow from the Deja Vu menu. This starts you with a 130% Quality Essence of Flow, essentially guaranteeing victory for that run.

Essences and Memories

To make this build work effectively, you primarily need Essence of Flow. This item lowers the cooldown of your equipped Memory based on how often you inflict Light damage. Because Pure Soul deals Light damage repeatedly with each use, you can almost eliminate its cooldown entirely by upgrading Essence of Flow to match the number of projectiles your current Pure Soul setup fires.

Once you’ve built up your damage skills, focus on finding Memories and Essences that will help you survive longer. Some good choices to look for are:

Memory/Essence Effect
Mass Protection Grant a Barrier that dissipates over 1.5 seconds over you and allies.
Purgatory Damage enemies in an area and heal an ally with the lowest health percentage. Healing is tripled when Purgatory hits a boss.
Ice Shield Generate a Barrier over a target. When the Barrier is destroyed, it damages nearby enemies and heals the ally for each enemy hit.
Any Light Damage Memory Replace your second Pure Soul with another Light Damage Memory, if needed. Chain Lightning and Starfall are good alternatives.
Essence of Momentum Every time you attack an enemy, reduce attached Memory’s cooldown.
Essence of the Vortex Periodically launch a fireball at a nearby enemy.
Essence of Metal Kills reduce the attached Memory’s cooldown.
Essence of Predation Deal bonus damage to bosses. Every time you kill a boss or a Hunter, you gain a stack that grants a permanent increase to either AD or AP.
Essence of Shatter Every 10 seconds, empower the next cast of the attached Memory to deal more damage. If the Memory deals Light damage, it is empowered further.
Essence of Clemency Attached Memory gains Lifesteal.
Essence of Rigidity When the attached Memory hits an enemy, gain Barrier for 2 seconds (untested on Pure Soul, though it should work since Rigidity triggers on each hit from Tales of Hellfire).

The way Flow works also impacts how quickly other Essences recharge their abilities. This synergy makes Essences like Shatter, Celestial, Glacial Core, and Pure White particularly strong.

If you’re tackling Nightmare difficulty, it’s best to equip at least one Essence that boosts your damage when you collect a Pure Soul. Also, prioritize building up your Barrier instead of relying heavily on healing, as Nightmare mode significantly reduces how effective healing is.

How to Play This Build

Okay, so usually my Vesper builds are all about super fast gameplay, needing tons of APM. But this build? It’s way more chill. Seriously, you mostly just run around and enjoy the visuals! It starts a little slow, but if you use Deja Vu to kick things off with Essence of Flow, you’ll fly through the Rapids. Just be careful, because Bismuth is really fragile, so dodging enemy attacks is a must!

If you’re focusing on the ‘Say Hello To My Little Friends’ ability, prioritize maxing out Bismuth’s Prismatic Vision to get a 100% attack speed boost. If not, spend your Dream Dust and Heroic Boss rewards on leveling up Pure Soul.
