Dying Light: The Beast’s Legendary Grind Is Half-Baked Without One Feature

Getting better gear in *Dying Light: The Beast* isn’t about becoming more powerful over time, like in many other games. Instead, it’s crucial for simply surviving. Each piece of equipment – weapons and armor – has special stats and abilities that help you fight infected and navigate the dangerous world. These can improve your defense, increase your damage, or even help you find more crafting resources. Like most games with gear, items come in different rarities, from common (the least effective) to legendary (the best). You can find gear naturally as you play, or you can craft higher-quality items by collecting and upgrading the necessary blueprints.

Later in *Dying Light: The Beast*, the crafting system becomes frustrating when trying to create legendary weapons. It’s simply too difficult to gather enough materials to fully upgrade and craft these powerful items, often requiring repetitive grinding in specific locations which disrupts the game’s flow. This makes the idea of crafting legendaries feel less rewarding and ultimately weakens the system. Adding a New Game Plus mode, which the game currently lacks, could help solve this problem.

Dying Light: The Beast’s Legendary Grind Suffers Without New Game Plus

Resources Stretch Too Thin for Legendary Crafting

Playing through *Dying Light: The Beast* once isn’t enough to gather all the materials needed for multiple legendary weapons. Even with gear that boosts crafting material drops, you’ll still need to repeatedly farm specific locations. Players have to venture into the Dark Zones multiple times to collect enough materials not only to unlock legendary weapon blueprints and craft the weapons themselves, but also to repair them and, in the case of weapons like bows, to craft the necessary ammunition.

A New Game Plus mode would make it easier for players to improve their gear in *Dying Light: The Beast*. It would let them revisit the Dark Zones as if it were their first time, and finding better armor there would be a great benefit. Plus, starting a new playthrough with all their existing items and upgrades would allow players to naturally collect resources as they experience the story again.

Gear Progression Feels Capped Without Higher Rarity

Beyond the missing New Game Plus feature for powerful weapons, *Dying Light: The Beast* also has a confusing armor system. All armor currently in the game is considered ‘epic,’ but there aren’t any even rarer ‘legendary’ sets to find or create. Adding a New Game Plus mode would be a great way to fix this, allowing players to upgrade their existing armor to legendary status – a feature many recent RPGs include.

As a big fan of *Dying Light: The Beast*, I’ve been thinking about the difficulty. It seems like the developers might be intentionally making it tough, because getting fully geared up in a second playthrough would really make the enemies in Castor Woods a lot easier to handle. I think they could fix this by only letting you play New Game Plus on harder difficulties. It’s not that the best weapons and armor are *required* to beat the game, but they’re definitely powerful, and it feels like a grind to actually get them. Luckily, *Dying Light 2* already has a New Game Plus mode, so I’m hoping they’ll add it to *The Beast* soon!
