As a long-time fan of Clear River Games and their captivating Gimmick series, I can hardly contain my excitement as I share this latest news with you all. Decades in the making, the sequel to our beloved puzzle-platformer game, Gimmick! 2, has finally unveiled its first gameplay footage in a tantalizing new trailer. The anticipation has been building up for me since the release of the original game back in my teenage years, and I can hardly believe that we’re on the precipice of another adventure filled with mind-bending puzzles and delightful characters. I can hardly wait to dive back into this imaginative world and explore all the new tricks and gimmicks that Clear River Games has in store for us!
In 2024, the sequel to the popular PC game “Gimmick! 2” will be unveiled by Bitwave Games. The team behind the project shared that this new installment will carry on the adventures of our beloved hero Yokai Yumetaro, who gained recognition from the original SUNSOFT game launched in the late 1980s for the NES, approximately three decades ago.

In Gimmick! 2, you encounter Yumetaro the small, green yokai once more. After many years, he embarks on a fresh journey through a vibrant world filled with intriguing puzzles, formidable adversaries, and concealed riches. You have the option to play in an easier, supportive mode or test your mettle in the authentic “Gimmick!” mode!
With the supernatural powers of Yumetaro being a yokai, he possesses the skill to summon and hurl a potent celestial body. This star isn’t just any ordinary object; it retains momentum from Yumetaro’s motion after bouncing. This cosmic tool serves multiple purposes: activating hidden switches, shielding against adversaries, and even enabling access to remote locations during the quest for worldly secrets.
Clear River Games’ publisher has revealed that acclaimed composer David Wise will be creating the game’s soundtrack. Wise is recognized for his work on various games and franchises including Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Battletoads, Diddy Kong Racing, among others. The team has made a distinctive announcement video featuring Wise himself, which you can watch below.
At Clear River Games, they share that David has created entirely new tunes along with refining previous favorites for the soundtrack. The creative direction of the soundtrack was handled by Pelle Cahndlerby, and it was recorded live in Sweden with Joel Bille. Additionally, David has prepared a special greeting for fans, welcoming them to his new compositions.
Gimmick! 2 is coming to PC in 2024.
