How to Get the Divine Beast Head In Shadow of the Erdtree

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: To obtain the Divine Beast Head, I first need to take down the formidable foe that is the Divine Beast Lion Dancer. This boss has made its home in Belurat, the Tower Settlement. For melee players like myself, this battle can be quite a challenge due to the Lion Dancer’s agile combat style and relentless movements.

After completing a battle, players will receive the Divine Beast Head as reward with no explicit explanation of its purpose. But if you pay close attention, there are clues scattered around that suggest its hidden functions.

Divine Beast Head: Overview & Stats

I’ve always been captivated by the traditional lion dance costume, adorned with a magnificent beast’s head. Privileged performers, the most skilled sculptors, wear this sacred headgear. Sadly, it no longer answers to my elderly grandmother’s heartfelt entreaties.

Calling upon the divine intensifies the power and agility of the storm, yet diminishes the healing properties of sipping from a vial of holy tears. Wearing this headgear also distracts focus.

The Divine Beast Head is a large, standalone headpiece that doesn’t belong to any armor set. It enhances the power of storm-based incantations, like Death Lightning, by approximately 10%. This makes it an effective bonus when used together with the lion remembrance talisman that players can obtain.

As a seasoned adventurer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve come across countless magical artifacts, each with its unique properties. But none quite like this piece I recently discovered. At first glance, it seems like a promising find – increasing both Strength and Dexterity by a substantial 4 points each. However, upon closer inspection, the fine print reveals a catch.

How to Use the Divine Beast Head in Shadow of the Erdtree

What To Do With Divine Beast Head in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

The Divine Beast Head primarily serves as an ornamental headpiece that tarnished characters can wear for an enhanced look. Despite its oversized appearance, it’s also useful in providing additional backstory and rewards. To obtain these benefits:

  • Fast travel to the Private Altar site of grace in Belurat.
  • Go through the south door to reach a bridge with two enemies.
  • Kill the enemies and move forward to reach a locked door.
  • You will need the Storeroom Key to proceed. It can be obtained from a room slightly further up in the tower.
  • Go inside and talk to the NPC, Hornsent Grandam, sitting hunched over on the far-right bench in the Storeroom.

Should players make a stop at Hornsent Grandma’s hut prior to defeating a Divine Beast, they will be met with some stern remarks from her. A Divine Beast’s head adorns the table to her left, suggesting a significant link between the beast and the grandma.

If a player fails to don the appropriate attire, Hornsent Grandma will merely grunt. Contrarily, once the player puts on the Divine Beast Head, she will engage in conversation with the player for a brief period and bestow some rewards.

The initial encounter presents players with a new spell called “Watchful Spirit.” This enchantment requires a total of 28 Focus Action Points (FAP) to activate and takes away 12 Focus Points (FP) every time it’s used. Additionally, she rewards the player with a bowl of stew upon returning to her location after re-entering the area.
