Pokemon Go champion demands changes to “unplayable” PvP full of bugs

As a dedicated Pokemon Go player and a passionate participant in the Go Battle League (GBL), I have witnessed firsthand the current state of the game’s PvP mode and the frustration it brings to many players, including myself. The recent Pokemon Go Fest 2024 was an exciting event, but the issues within GBL remain unaddressed, which could significantly impact the upcoming World Championships.

During Pokemon Go Fest 2024, players encountered fresh Pokemons and experienced updated game features. However, not all players were content with the current state of Player vs Player (PvP) in the game. On July 18, 2023, World Champion ItsAXN shared a video appealing to the developers to address some significant concerns regarding Pokemon Go (PoGo) before another Championship event takes place.

The player, who thrives on competition, began the video with, “I generally prefer a positive outlook and support the game. But unfortunately, its current state compels me to voice my concerns.”

I’ve been a dedicated Pokemon trainer for years, and I’ve attended several World Championships. The news that the 2024 tournament will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, between August 16 and August 18 fills me with excitement. However, as someone who has closely followed the Go Battle League, I can’t help but feel apprehensive. There have been several issues reported recently that could potentially impact the tournament experience for trainers. While I remain optimistic and hope for the best, my past experiences have taught me to prepare for potential challenges that may arise during the competition.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve watched a recent video by a creator who highlighted numerous problems with Pokemon Go’s Player vs Player (PvP) mode from my perspective. These issues included screens freezing up on me, brief lag spikes causing my opponents to defeat me before I could react, and the absence of debuff text that made it challenging to keep track of the ongoing gameplay.

“The restriction of only being able to play 25 games is quite constraining for us. And when we’re unable to truly experience these games during that time, it becomes challenging to improve, enjoy the process, and develop this game further,” said ItsAXN.

“According to the present title holder, Android phones are generally more prone to encountering these problems than iPhones when playing Pokemon Go: ‘This game is intended to be inclusive. However, if one has to invest in a high-end phone just to play it, it becomes challenging for people to view it as a genuine contender.'”

To put it simply, at the end of the video, he expressed his main concern: “Despite the existence of a ‘known issues’ page for GBL, many problems I discussed haven’t been addressed. Some are even missing from that list and labeled as resolved.”

In a recent post on X, he added another video to highlight problems with the game, encouraging Niantic to address these matters before the upcoming tournament. For many competitors, including himself, the Global Battle League serves as their primary training ground prior to championship victories.

As a dedicated Pokémon Go Battle League (GBL) player with countless hours invested into training my team and perfecting my strategies, last night’s battle left me utterly dismayed. The game froze mid-match, rendering it unplayable – an experience that has become all too familiar for me, both in GBL and during scrimmages.

In a Reddit post, user ‘Greninja_D_Raizo’ expressed hope that the world champion speaking out about these matters would generate enough attention, enabling Niantic to take notice and take action.

Some players believe that the presence of a notable figure discussing contentious matters in the game could be a significant advancement, according to numerous opinions. However, others have expressed their disappointment and mentioned having left PvP fighting behind several years prior.

As a dedicated Pokemon Go player with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of frustration when it comes to the ongoing issues in the Game Battles League (GBL). Niantic, the game developers, have yet to address these problems effectively. However, I remain hopeful and will continue to stay informed, keeping you updated with the latest news regarding potential fixes.
