In every adventure within Jump Space, players will pilot and control their own starship. If the initial light corvette doesn’t suit your playstyle, you’ll be happy to learn that you can unlock additional ships as you journey toward the galactic center.
Getting new ships in *Jump Space* is pretty straightforward, but the game doesn’t explain the process clearly. This guide will show you how to unlock every ship and offer tips to help you avoid relying too much on chance.
So, I’m putting together a guide for those of you jumping into the early access version of *Jump Space*. Right now, there are only two ships you can fly, but don’t worry, I’ll be updating this as soon as the developers add more. I want to keep it current so you have all the info you need!
How to Unlock Ships in Jump Space
You can find new ships by locating and completing a ‘Drifting Hull Active Event’ mission. These missions become available after you unlock the second area of the galaxy map, and they can appear on any mission within that area.
Drifting Hull events happen randomly during expeditions. You can find out if one is available by looking at your ship’s star map. Keep an eye out for nodes with a green, glowing icon – those are likely to contain a Drifting Hull. Simply hover your mouse over a node to see if it has one.
When you encounter a Drifting Hull event, search for a damaged ship floating in space. In the example shown, it’s a DT-4 Dart. To get this ship, you need to go inside the derelict and locate its black box. Explore the ship, following the green icon on your screen to guide you. Eliminate any hostile robots you find, and don’t forget to search all the containers for valuable items.
After you obtain the black box, you must finish the expedition. Similar to many extraction games, if you don’t successfully return with the black box, you’ll have to start the entire process from the beginning.
If you want to find Drifting Hulls, try taking on expeditions that last more than an hour. Longer expeditions have more mission nodes, increasing your chances of encountering a Drifting Hull event. If your current expedition doesn’t have one, you can always return to the hangar and start a new one.
All Ships in Jump Space
C-3 Catamaran
- Hit Points: 5
- Shield Units: 4
- Speed: 70
- Maneuverability: 60
- 1 pilot cannon, 2 special weapons, 5 artifact slots, 1 multi-turret slot
The Catamaran is the ship you begin with, and it’s well-rounded in all areas. It’s quite durable thanks to its high health and shields, and it’s also reasonably fast. This medium-sized ship features three decks – a cockpit, engineering, storage, and crew quarters – making it ideal for playing with friends.
DT-4 Dart
The Dart is vastly different from the Catamaran. Though called a heavy fighter, it’s actually a small, agile ship best for one or two players. Unlike the Catamaran, it doesn’t have multiple turret slots. The Dart can only equip one powerful special weapon, like a Railgun, along with two pilot cannons. This design focuses most of the firepower on the pilot, making it much better at close-range dogfights than long-range attacks on bases.
