This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia.
My Hero Academia is easily one of the most popular and critically acclaimed manga series of the last decade. From the very beginning, it gained a strong following and quickly became known as a promising new series. The anime adaptation propelled My Hero Academia to even greater heights, and it has remained incredibly popular ever since. For a time, it was the most widely read manga globally, demonstrating just how much of a cultural phenomenon it became.
Sadly, *My Hero Academia* concluded in 2024, and despite some related projects in 2025, the main story is finished. While fans miss the series, *Jump* has introduced some fantastic new manga to take its place, and it looks like we’ve found a worthy successor. Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of *My Hero Academia*, is now recommending *Ichi the Witch* to his readers – a manga that’s quickly gained popularity since his series ended. Many manga fans are already aware, but *Ichi the Witch* seems to be the new favorite.

Ichi the Witch Is The New Manga Hit of 2025

- The series has a similar power system
- The protagonist is similar to Izuku
With the conclusion of *My Hero Academia*, a lot of new manga series have come out, and one of the most popular is *Ichi the Witch* (also known as *Madan no Ichi*). *My Hero Academia* finished in September 2024, and *Ichi the Witch* started appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump right around the same time. The series is written by Osamu Nishi, and the artwork is done by Shiro Usazaki, who is known for their work on Act Age.
I’m grateful for everything in nature – the plants, forests, animals, birds, insects, and even fungi. I appreciate all life on Earth. – Ichi
The manga *Ichi the Witch* is celebrating its one-year anniversary and continues to gain popularity with each new chapter. Volume one was released on January 4, 2025, and as expected, creator Kohei Horikoshi immediately recommended it to his followers. This recommendation introduced the manga to many fans of *My Hero Academia*, significantly boosting its reach and popularity.
Besides creator Kohei Horikoshi’s endorsement, many fans believe *Ichi the Witch* is a great follow-up to *My Hero Academia*. The main characters in both series share noticeable similarities in both how they look and their personalities. Plus, the way powers work in each world isn’t so different – *My Hero Academia* features Quirks, while *Ichi the Witch* uses magic gained by defeating Majiks.

Fans Are Loving Itchi The Witch

Ichi the Witch has been very successful with its manga sales, and if it continues to do well, an anime adaptation is likely. However, the anime won’t be released in 2026. The manga currently has around 50 chapters, and a full anime adaptation typically requires closer to 100. While fans can expect an announcement about the Ichi the Witch anime in 2026, the series itself is projected to premiere in 2027. This gives the manga time to build even more of a following, which is great news for fans!
I am planning a new manga! I’m currently developing the concept. There are ideas I wasn’t able to explore with *My Hero Academia* that I’m excited to try in this new series. My goal is to launch it in Weekly Shonen Jump, so I’m focusing on creating a concept that will be a good fit and challenge me creatively.
To make a successful anime out of this manga, it would be ideal to let it build up a larger collection of chapters first. Then, fans are hoping a talented animation studio will pick it up and create a great adaptation. With the right circumstances, ‘Ichi the Witch’ could become a huge hit and a standout anime for years to come. It’s still early to say for sure, but everything looks very promising, and with support from creator Kohei Horikoshi, fans believe this series has the potential to be truly memorable.
The *My Hero Academia* manga finished its run after 431 chapters, and you can read them all on Manga Plus. The anime adaptation is still ongoing and its final season is expected to premiere later this year. You can stream the series on Crunchyroll.
