Nintendo announced on September 25th that Doug Bowser will be stepping down as President of Nintendo of America on December 31, 2025. He will be replaced by Devon Pritchard, who is currently an executive vice president overseeing revenue, marketing, and customer experience. Pritchard will assume the role of President on January 1, 2026.
So, Nintendo of America’s president, Doug Bowser, is stepping down after six years! It’s kinda wild to think he took over from Reggie Fils-Aime back in April 2019. Before becoming president, he was in charge of sales and marketing, and actually oversaw the launch of the Switch here in North America in 2017 – that was a big deal! He first joined Nintendo of America in 2015 and quickly moved up to lead the company. And you gotta love the irony – his last name is Bowser, just like the villain in *Super Mario*! Everyone noticed that when he took the job, it was a funny coincidence.
Doug Bowser Is Calling It a Career
Following the successful launch of the Switch 2 – which sold over two million units in the US by late August 2025 – Nintendo of America President and COO Doug Bowser will be retiring. Nintendo announced that his last day will be December 31, 2025. Devon Pritchard will take over as the new President on January 1, 2026, becoming the first woman to lead a major Nintendo division. Currently, Pritchard is Executive Vice President of revenue, marketing, and consumer experience and will also join the NOA board of directors. Bowser confirmed his retirement and congratulated Pritchard on Twitter, and Nintendo fans have expressed their gratitude for his years of service.
Doug Bowser is stepping down as President of Nintendo of America (NOA), and Satoru Shibata will take over on November 16, 2025. Shibata, a Nintendo veteran with the company since 1985 and previously President of Nintendo of Europe, will lead NOA during a period of change. This transition follows reports that Nintendo of America is outsourcing some customer support roles in preparation for the busy holiday shopping season.

After serving as President of NOA for a little over six years – about half as long as his predecessor, Reggie Fils-Aime – Bowser will be stepping down. As Pritchard prepares to take on this historic role, it’s unclear what Nintendo of America’s future plans will look like in 2026.
