As a passionate fan of anime and someone who has binge-watched the entire first season of “Oshi no Ko” before its release, I can’t help but feel both excited and apprehensive about the latest episode 3 of Season 2, titled “Rewriting,” now available on HiDive. Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t watched it yet!

Rehearsals have been put on pause due to script disputes among the team, giving actors some spare time. Taking advantage of this break, Akane brings Aqua to the Stage Around theater to demonstrate the potential of plays. Later, Aqua recognizes that while Akane is the mastermind behind the creation, Abiko may struggle to fully utilize the theater’s resources and the art of live performance.

As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of Oshi no Ko, I’m thrilled about the latest episode that brought us closer to Abiko’s perspective. Being an artist whose work is being transformed into manga, I could relate to the intricacies of the creative process he went through. This episode took a deep dive into the world of manga production and offered a unique insight into the thoughts and apprehensions of artists who entrust their creations to others. Once again, Oshi no Ko masterfully explored the complexities of the entertainment industry in an introspective and captivating way.

Aqua’s First Theater Experience

The Unique Experience Of The Stage Around

Oshi no Ko Season 2: Heart-to-Heart

As a devoted fan, I can now say that Ruby has earned her place among the renowned idols, giving her a sense of belonging. However, her thirst for more opportunities doesn’t stop there – she yearns to connect deeper with her famed colleagues by asking for additional tasks. In contrast, Akane and Aqua make their way to the Stage Around theater to catch a performance of “Smash Heaven.” With low expectations in tow, Aqua is taken aback when the play captivates him completely, leaving him in awe of its brilliance.

Aqua’s outstanding portrayal of the play brings happiness not only to Akane but also to Raida, who is the producer of “Smash Heaven” and observed their performance while passing by. When Aqua inquired about Raida’s script progress, he acknowledged they were encountering difficulties. Aqua voiced his concerns, expressing his belief that Abiko may not be capable of penning a suitable script. Raida concurred, adding that GOA, the play’s writer, demonstrated remarkable talent and theater intuition with their previous work. Recognizing that “Tokyo Blade” might falter without intervention, Aqua made the decision to step in.

The Grueling Life Of A Mangaka

Working In The Industry

Oshi no Ko Season 2: Heart-to-Heart

At the studio of Yoriko Kichijoji, Aqua, Akane, Kana, and Melt arrive with the hope that Aqua can convince Kichijoji to help Abiko, who seems stubbornly unwilling to listen to others. Aqua believes that Kichijoji’s experience as a successful mangaka and former mentor could be the key to reaching Abiko. During their conversation, the topic shifts to the realities of being a mangaka, with Kichijoji sharing her insights in an honest and unfiltered manner.

As a gamer, I often find myself immersed in stories about characters and their past experiences. And speaking of which, there comes a point when the conversation shifts towards Abiko’s history with Kichijoji, specifically during their time working together on “Sweet Today.” Even though Abiko is reserved by nature, she’s deeply passionate about manga and can’t help but open up about it. Kichijoji sees Abiko as a girl yearning for human connection, yet her newfound success as a mangaka has given her an air of arrogance. When Akane asks Kichijoji to persuade Abiko to reconsider joining GOA once more, she ponders the idea but eventually decides to stand by her side. Aqua agrees with her choice, but also requests that she pass on something to Abiko at the very least.

From One Mangaka To Another

An Important Reality Check

Oshi no Ko Season 2: Heart-to-Heart

In Kichijoji’s visit to Abiko’s studio, motivated by Aqua’s request, she encounters a disarrayed workspace with Abiko laboring in the dimly lit room. Concerned about her friend’s wellbeing and missed deadline, Kichijoji joins forces to complete the ongoing chapter. She urges Abiko to hire an assistant soon but is met with objections. Abiko laments about the poor quality of help she’s received in the past; either they leave due to her tough standards or she dismisses them for constant errors.

In our writing room, Kichijoji accuses me of hiding behind the success of my work to avoid social interactions. I retort that she can’t fathom the pressure of creating a beloved series. She concedes, but insists her work is superior nonetheless. We argue as we type, finally letting go of our hidden emotions. After hours of intense focus, we complete the manuscript and collapse on the floor, exhausted. In a moment of vulnerability, I confess that I’ve been resistive to adapting Sweet Today due to my anger over its previous disappointing adaptation. As we make amends, Kichijoji hands me an envelope from Aqua, containing a ticket to the latest Smash Heaven movie premiere.
