As a long-time Mortal Kombat fan and avid gamer, I’m absolutely thrilled with the latest news about the game’s upcoming DLC for Mortal Kombat 1. Takeda Takahashi’s return to the series is a welcome addition, especially since his backstory has been revamped and his fighting style updated. The fact that he’ll be clashing with Sub-Zero, who now sports a classic movie skin based on his appearance in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film, just adds fuel to my excitement.

Mortal Kombat 1 has revealed a new skin for Sub-Zero, with the costume being based on his classic appearance in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film. Mortal Kombat 1‘s first Kombat Pack includes six DLC characters, featuring a mix of returning characters like Ermac and guest characters like Omni-Man and Homelander. The final returning character of the Kombat Pack is Takeda Takahashi, a beloved fan favorite who is returning from Mortal Kombat X.

Takeda Takahashi is joining “Mortal Kombat 1” on July 23, marking his second major role in the game series since “Mortal Kombat X.” Originally the son of the blind swordsman Kenshi, Takeda became a member of Scorpion’s Shirai Ryu clan and combined ninja techniques with contemporary technology. In “Mortal Kombat 1,” Takeda’s backstory undergoes an update, while his expertise in the Shirai Ryu martial arts and whip weapons remains largely intact. During a recent KombatKast livestream, Takeda’s skills were highlighted; however, NetherRealm Studios had one more surprise for viewers: a brief demonstration of Takeda facing off against Sub-Zero, who donned a new costume.

During the livestream, the costume displayed was modeled after Sub-Zero’s look in the 1995 “Mortal Kombat” movie. In this film portrayal, Sub-Zero wore a black jumpsuit with blue padding and an imposing mask. The ice ninja character didn’t say much in the original movie, but this skin incorporates the same lines as the base game’s Sub-Zero/Bi-Han. Although KombatKast did not explicitly mention it, there’s a strong possibility that this skin will be introduced in the upcoming balance update for “Mortal Kombat 1” on July 23 or at a later date.

Mortal Kombat’s History With Legacy Skins

In the realm of Mortal Kombat, they’ve explored legacy skins before. With the release of Mortal Kombat 11, a pack emerged, featuring Klassic Mortal Kombat Movie skins. This pack showcased Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade in their original ’90s movie looks. Simultaneously, Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby, and Bridgette-Wilson Sampras lent their voices to recreate their iconic characters from the 1995 Mortal Kombat film.

Fans got a sneak peek of upcoming movie-themed skins for Mortal Kombat when Ed Boon dropped a hint in May. He shared an image of Scorpion dressed in his iconic look from the 1995 film, indicating that more were on the way. The price for these skins has yet to be revealed, so fans will have to stay tuned for further details.
