Dead Space's Best Path Forward Might Be in Crossover Content

As a die-hard fan of the Dead Space franchise, I’ve been following every piece of news and rumor regarding its future since the release of the brilliant remake last year. The excitement was palpable when we finally got to relive Isaac Clarke’s terrifying journey through the necromorph-infested USG Ishimura all over again. But, with no official word on a Dead Space 2 remake, my heart sinks as I watch our beloved franchise seemingly stagnate.

Approximately one year has passed since the release of the “Dead Space” remake in early 2023, and it appears that fresh content for the survival horror series is currently in short supply. Contrary to speculation, EA Motive announced that they have yet to initiate production on a “Dead Space 2” remake, leaving fans concerned that the game might be delayed for several more years or potentially even cancelled altogether.

Although a Dead Space remake has been released recently, additional content has still been introduced, including the latest collaboration with Battlefield 2042. As fans eagerly anticipate possible sequels like Dead Space 2 and 3, it seems that new Dead Space content may be limited to crossovers in the near future.

Dead Space’s Many Video Game Crossovers

Isaac Clarke and the popular game Dead Space, created by Visceral Games in 2008, have made guest appearances or been mentioned in numerous other games since then. The majority of these appearances are found in Electronic Arts titles due to EA’s ownership of the Dead Space franchise. One of the earliest crossovers occurred in 2009 with EA Redwood Shores’ simulation game, MySims Agents, for the Wii. In this game, players start off as a local detective solving cases but later get recruited to join a team of special agents. As they progress, they come across an abandoned engineering suit on a mountain, which is none other than Isaac Clarke’s iconic suit.

After unveiling “Agents” and “Extraction,” EA Redwood Shores underwent a name change, transforming into Visceral Games. With this fresh identity, Visceral introduced its next M-rated original franchise in 2010: “Dante’s Inferno.” This title, reminiscent of “God of War,” is an intense hack-and-slash rendition of Dante Alighieri’s classic work, “Divine Comedy.” Players assumed the role of a Templar named Dante and battled their way through nine circles of Hell. Along the journey, Dante defeated Death, claimed his scythe, and endeavored to save Beatrice’s soul from Lucifer.

If someone bought the “Death Edition” of “Dante’s Inferno,” they could experience Hell wearing the engineering suit from the first installment of “Dead Space.” However, it’s important to note that the “Dead Space” costume is no longer accessible for download following the closure of “Inferno’s” servers back in 2023.

Dead Space’s Crossovers Beyond EA

In various EA and non-EA games, designs inspired by Clarke, such as helmets and costumes, were adopted. These designs emerged in titles like “PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale,” where Clarke became a playable character, and “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition,” featuring a Clarke skin in Skin Pack 5. Unofficially, Clarke appeared as a skin in “Unfortunate Spacemen.” Additionally, a helmet bearing the same resemblance was discovered in “Viscera Cleanup Detail.” The most recent manifestation of Clarke in non-EA games was as a limited-time skin in “Fortnite’s” Chapter 4: Season 1 in 2023.

The game Dead Space has been featured in various other Electronic Arts (EA) titles such as:

Potential Future Dead Space Crossovers

If the future of a possible remake for “Dead Space 2” remains undecided, Electronic Arts (EA) and other game creators might still include references or amusing Easter eggs related to “Dead Space” in their upcoming projects. As most nods to “Dead Space” are found in EA’s other titles, the next potential “Dead Space” Easter egg could potentially surface in the upcoming “Dragon Age: The Veilguard.”

In the 2011 version of “Dragon Age 2,” players had the option to obtain an armor set called Ser Isaac’s Armor, which was inspired by the advanced suit from “Dead Space 2.” To pay homage to this connection, “Veilguard” could create another armor set with a similar design based on the upcoming remake.

In the intriguing realm of multiplayer survival horror games like “Dead by Daylight,” Clarke could potentially make an appearance. Throughout “DbD”‘s existence, various guest killers and survivors from films, television shows, and video games have been introduced, including “Silent Hill”‘s Pyramid Head, “Left 4 Dead”‘s Bill, and the latest addition, “Tomb Raider”‘s Lara Croft. With his unique skills and engaging backstory, Clarke would be an excellent fit as a survivor for “Dead by Daylight.”
