Borderlands 4 Community Challenge Offers Players a Free Skin, But There’s a Catch

Gearbox is launching a new team challenge for Borderlands 4 players. If the community completes it together, everyone will receive a special skin for Rafa. There’s just one thing to keep in mind! Borderlands 4 has been consistently giving rewards to players who follow the game on social media, including new challenges and Golden Keys.

Fans of the *Borderlands* series are used to Gearbox regularly adding new content, and *Borderlands 4* is no different. The game will receive substantial downloadable content (DLC) updates, alongside smaller patches and Golden Keys. These keys, earned through the Gearbox SHiFT website, unlock golden chests hidden in four locations: The Lockaway, Carcadia, Belton’s Bore, and The Launchpad. Players can also earn free items simply by participating in new weekend community challenges.

Rafa Players Will Want to Partake In this Borderlands 4 Community Challenge

Just like the last community event for Borderlands 4, Gearbox is setting a new goal for players this weekend. From September 26th to 28th, they’re challenging everyone to collectively earn 20 million “Second Winds” while playing as Rafa. A Second Wind is a special feature in the Borderlands games that gives you a second chance after being knocked down. When your health reaches zero, you have a brief period to get a kill and instantly revive, letting you continue fighting instead of having to respawn.

This week’s community challenge is specifically for players who use the Rafa character. While all characters can earn second winds, only those earned with Rafa will count towards the goal of 20 million. This makes the challenge a bit tougher, as it effectively limits you to using only one of the four available characters. The reward, however, is a special skin called “Savings Savior” for Rafa in *Borderlands 4*, based on his appearance in the original YOLT short.

Players of *Borderlands 4* have a lot to look forward to this weekend! Not only can you earn second winds in-game, but Gearbox is building hype for a special announcement. At Tokyo Game Show, they’re hinting at the first DLC character for *Borderlands 4*, sharing a shadowy silhouette and a brief teaser that appears to feature cards in the sand. We can expect this new character to arrive with the *Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned* Story Pack, which is currently slated for release in the first quarter of 2026.
