Pokemon TCG Pocket is a mobile game that’s become popular with Pokemon Trading Card Game fans. It focuses heavily on collecting cards, but you can still build decks and battle other players. While it’s extremely difficult to collect every card-similar to completing the Pokedex in the main Pokemon games-dedicated players can still finish collecting all the cards in each booster pack expansion.
As a long-time player of *Pokemon TCG Pocket*, I’m really starting to get frustrated with how collecting has become in the game. It feels like the limited-time offers and promos are just the norm, but the whole Shiny situation is a real problem. They’re so expensive to get with pack points, it feels like it all comes down to luck. And what’s even worse is that if you *do* pull a Shiny you don’t need, you’re stuck with it because you can’t trade! Now, they’re releasing a new Deluxe Pack EX on September 30th, and it’s only going to be around for a month. That means we’ll have to rush to get the cards we want, and rely on even *more* luck. It just feels like things are getting harder and harder for collectors.
The Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Deluxe Pack EX is based on a special, yearly release popular in Japan. It’s designed to help players collect cards they might have missed, and even features exclusive, full-art rare cards you won’t find anywhere else.

Why Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Deluxe Pack EX is Good in Theory
Although the Deluxe Pack EX is leaving on October 30th, DeNA has announced it will be available again in the future. It’s currently unknown if the next version will include the same cards or feature some new additions. Players can expect exciting cards in this pack, including a rare Pikachu EX artwork, full-art versions of Professor Oak, Greninja, and Gardevoir, and potentially other surprises.
A positive aspect of the *Pokemon TCG Pocket* Deluxe Pack EX is that, like Japan’s High Class packs, it ensures you’ll receive a valuable chase card with every purchase. This makes it appealing for players to use their daily packs and hourglasses to try and obtain EX cards they’re missing or to collect special full art versions. However, because this is a limited-time set, it somewhat contradicts the benefits of using those daily rewards to pull cards.
In *Pokemon TCG Pocket*, hourglasses – used for special features – are mainly earned through daily tasks, special events, and one-time solo battles. Players can also save them up or buy them in bundles, similar to how other mobile games handle premium currency. This system creates a disadvantage for free-to-play players when it comes to the Deluxe Pack EX. Without using hourglasses, free players can only open packs every 12 hours, limiting them to a maximum of 60 packs during the event. This makes getting duplicate cards or simply having bad luck even more frustrating.
The new Deluxe Pack EX has arrived in *Pokemon TCG Pocket* at a time when many players are feeling overwhelmed by the constant release of new sets. This pack introduces highly sought-after cards that will require a significant investment of either time or money to obtain. Unlike the premium pass cards, which have a clear cost and limited availability, the Deluxe Pack EX chase cards feel less predictable and require ongoing effort to collect. The premium pass is upfront about its limitations, but the Deluxe Pack EX feels more demanding.
The Deluxe EX Pack pushes players to either spend a lot of time earning in-game currency to get the cards they want, or hope that the cards will become available again in the future. This creates a divide between players who get lucky, those who can afford to spend money, and those who can’t get the cards they’re looking for, which only makes the existing problems with *Pokemon TCG Pocket* worse.
