As an avid Xbox 360 collector and gamer, I was thrilled when I recently came across a used Elite console on the market. The sleek matte black design and the promise of a larger hard drive had always appealed to me, and I was eager to add it to my collection.
A devoted Xbox 360 user was surprised to discover a copy of “Need for Speed: Most Wanted” inside their pre-owned Elite console’s disc drive. Throughout its lifespan, Microsoft produced various versions of the Xbox 360. The early models of the Xbox 360 weren’t the most robust devices, with the Red Ring of Death affecting more than half of them and rendering them unusable.
Microsoft fixed the issues that marred the initial release of Xbox 360 consoles by launching improved versions. One of these upgraded consoles was the Elite model, which emerged a few years into the 360’s tenure and came equipped with a large 120 GB hard drive. This extra storage made it an attractive option for gamers, in addition to its sleek matte black design.
More recently, a Reddit user identified as Minute_Piece8984 bought an Xbox 360 Elite system. They didn’t disclose the cost of their purchase, but upon opening its disc tray, they discovered a free copy of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. For those unfamiliar, Need for Speed: Most Wanted is the 2005 edition of the popular Need for Speed series and one of the original games released for Xbox 360. Critics praised this game during its launch, giving it high marks. Unfortunately, there’s no digital version available on Xbox 360 for purchase. This scarcity has driven up the price of physical copies, which can be found on eBay for anywhere between $25 and $60. So, Minute_Piece8984 received a delightful bonus with their Elite console acquisition.

I’m disappointed to share that the cost of Xbox 360 games may rise soon. Microsoft is closing down the digital storefront for this console on July 29, meaning some games will no longer be available and others could see a significant price hike for their physical versions. In fact, recent trends suggest that Xbox 360 game prices have already started to climb. This news isn’t great for collectors or anyone looking to revisit classic titles from this era.
As a long-time Xbox 360 gamer, I’m thrilled to hear that numerous games from my cherished console are still accessible on modern gaming platforms. This news brings me relief and excitement, as it allows me to continue enjoying some of my all-time favorite titles without having to worry about the impending shutdown of the Xbox 360 marketplace on July 29. However, I must admit feeling a pang of disappointment upon learning that beloved games like “Need for Speed: Most Wanted” won’t be making the transition. It’s a shame to see such fan favorites disappear from availability, but I remain hopeful that the game will make a triumphant return in some form or another further down the line.
