Player numbers for Destiny 2 have dropped considerably since the release of the “Edge of Fate” expansion, with many players expressing disappointment with the recent changes. The online shooter, created by Bungie and first launched in 2017 as a sequel to 2014’s Destiny, was a long-time favorite and even won an award for “Best Community Support” at the 2019 Game Awards. Unfortunately, the game has been facing challenges with its latest updates.
Bungie released the latest expansion for *Destiny 2*, called “The Edge of Fate,” this summer. It’s the first part of a larger story arc called “The Fate Saga.” The update included big improvements to help new players get started more easily, called “The Portal,” and completely reworked how armor stats and gear levels work in the game. However, recent reports indicate that these changes have led to a noticeable decrease in the number of players currently playing.
Recent data from SteamDB, as reported by TheGamePost, indicates a significant decline in the number of players currently playing *Destiny 2*. The game saw a surge in popularity after the release of the ‘The Edge of Fate’ expansion in July, reaching over 100,000 players within a week. However, that initial excitement didn’t last, and player numbers have dropped sharply. As of late September, the game’s 24-hour peak is only around 21,890 players, and it hasn’t exceeded 50,000 players in a single day since early September. This represents a loss of roughly 80% of the players gained after the July 15th release of ‘The Edge of Fate’.
Destiny 2’s Player Count Has Dropped Significantly
Destiny 2 has seen a significant drop in players recently, and many long-time fans are voicing their concerns. A major complaint centers around the difficulty of the new content in The Edge of Fate, with players finding it overly challenging. Other issues contributing to the decline include bugs with the updated armor system and a perceived lack of engaging new features.
As a longtime Destiny 2 player, I’m really excited about what’s coming next! The game has had a bit of a rough patch lately, but things are looking up with the upcoming ‘Renegades’ expansion – it’s the next big step in the Fate Saga. From what I’ve heard, Renegades is going to shake things up with a brand new social space and a cool new location called the ‘Lawless Frontier.’ The best part? Bungie is teaming up with LucasFilm Games, so we’re getting some awesome Star Wars-inspired content! I’m really hoping this expansion will be exactly what Destiny 2 needs to get back to its former glory.
