As a long-time Mortal Kombat fan and avid gamer, I’ve followed Takeda’s journey since his introduction in Mortal Kombat X as one of the Kombat Kids. NetherRealm Studios displayed impressive creativity in crafting these new origin stories for MK1’s roster. The innovation extends to the game’s DLC fighters too, with Quan Chi and Ermac having different portrayals compared to earlier versions, and Takeda now boasting an altered backstory.

In the first Kombat Pack of Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1), Takeda is the final character introduced. Many fans have pondered about how this warrior fits into the new MK timeline, as Quan Chi and Ermac’s stories were delved into in the game’s campaign. While Takeda had a minor role in the conclusion of MK1, his impact was not substantial. With his recent unveiling, we now have access to a bio for this iteration of Takeda, which sheds light on his significance within the current MK universe. After being fatally injured, Kenshi brings Takeda to the Shirai Ryu dojo where he eventually recognizes his mistakes. Subsequently, Takeda vows to partner with his cousin in eliminating Earthrealm’s criminal networks and trains under Scorpion’s newly formed clan as part of this commitment.

Despite being unable to play him in MK11, Takeda’s recognition as the lone Kombat Kid in MK1’s inaugural Kombat Pack underscores his enduring appeal.

In the latest portrayal of Takeda, there’s an extra dimension introduced, making him contrastingly different from Kenshi. By altering their familial connection from father and son to cousins, potential family strife is preserved, which could have been eliminated due to Kenshi’s younger age. It’s yet to be determined if Takeda’s bond with Scorpion varies between Mortal Kombat 1 and X, but his loyalty to the clan might play a significant role in any potential clash against Sub-Zero’s Lin Kuei group.

As a big fan of the Mortal Kombat (MK) franchise, I’m thrilled to see a newcomer like Takeda making waves. Despite being relatively new to the scene, his addition to MK1’s Kombat Pack is a clear indication that he’s left an indelible mark in a short time. His unique moveset sets him apart as one of MK’s most captivating fighters. Moreover, his ties to franchise veterans like Kenshi and Scorpion make him even more intriguing. Although Takeda didn’t contribute to the storyline of MK1, his fresh backstory could significantly influence any future DLC or sequel plans from NetherRealm Studios.
