Okay, so I’m really into Hollow Knight: Silksong, and it’s packed with tough secrets to uncover after you beat the main game. There are these things called Mementos – basically special rewards you get for taking on hidden bosses and completing tricky mini-games. I’ve been trying to get the Grey Memento, and it’s a pain! You get it by beating the Watcher at the Edge, but you can’t even *find* him until you’re well into Act 3 and you’ve unlocked the Silk Soar ability. I’m putting together a guide to show everyone where to find the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong, and exactly how to get that Grey Memento.
Where to FInd the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong
Sands of Karak:
You can find the Watcher at the Edge in *Silksong* after you’ve unlocked the Sands of Karak area and learned the Silk Soar ability during the game’s third section, the Abyss.

After gaining this new skill, head back to the main hallway in the southwest part of the Sands of Karak. Find the right seed there, and use it to unlock a secret area.

The initial seed has branches extending in both directions. Take the western branch – it leads to the second seed, which is concealed in the cavern’s ceiling.

Hit the second seed, and it will provide a path to the hidden area.

After entering the secret area, go to the left side of the small platform and use Silk Soar to float up to the higher level.
Once you’ve used Silk Soar, turn left and head west until you find the Watcher at the Edge – it looks like a statue caught in a sandstorm. Interact with it to wake up the boss and start the battle.
How to Defeat the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong
Our Loadout:

- Crest: Crest o
- Red Tool:
- Yellow Tools:
- Blue Tools: , ,
We wanted a really quick attacking style for this battle, so we chose the Wanderer Crest, which functions like the Nail from *Hollow Knight*. To compensate for its shorter reach, we also equipped Longclaw. We used the Injector Band for safe healing during the fast-paced action, and Druid’s Eyes to turn even mistakes into opportunities – taking damage builds up silk. Finally, we added Tacks, because the Watcher’s attacks leave him open and vulnerable to this ability.
We strongly suggest upgrading the Needle weapon at least three times before the fight. It’s challenging enough, and using a weaker weapon will only make it harder. Along with that, try to start the fight with at least 8 Masks equipped. Now that you have the Silk Soar ability, collecting all 20 Mask Shards in *Silksong* is definitely achievable – 8 is just the minimum we recommend.
Watcher at the Edge Fight Breakdown:
The Watcher at the Edge isn’t a super complicated boss, but they can deal a lot of damage really fast, meaning you need to stay focused. The good news is they only have one main phase and their attacks don’t change, even though they *can* be stunned.

- The first major factor you need to watch for is the sheer length of the Watcher’s blade. It is far longer than it appears, and can easily trick you into thinking you have plenty of space, when in fact you do not. Always give yourself more room than you think you’ll need to avoid their attacks.

- The best way to punish the Watcher’s massive swings, is to wait for the sword to hit the ground, then pogo attack their head, then go up and over, and quickly attack from behind. Never try for more than two hits, as they will always punish you.

- Be very careful not to spend too much time in the air, and never jump when the Watcher is in a clear defensive position, like the pose pictured above.

- The defensive position shown is almost always a precursor to a massive jump attack that will make you pay if you jump into it.

- You’ll also want to watch for the Watcher diving into the sand. When this happens, sand will begin to burst from the area in which the Watcher will emerge. They will perform a massive attack, similar to their jumping attack, so stay clear.

- Remember – use Tacks or other ground-based tools. This will often be the difference between a successful fight and a failure.
After you beat the Watcher at the Edge, you’ll get the Grey Memento automatically. This is one of eight special items in *Silksong* that you can show off in Bellhome.
