Capcom Reveals Why 3 Resident Evil Games Are Coming to Switch 2 on the Same Day

Capcom plans to launch three Resident Evil games at the same time on the upcoming Switch 2 console on February 27, 2026. This decision came about after successfully testing Resident Evil Village on the new Nintendo hardware. Along with Village (released in 2021), the lineup will include Resident Evil Requiem and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

Capcom recently confirmed that three *Resident Evil* games are coming to the Switch 2 during a Nintendo Direct presentation, which followed widespread speculation. This is a significant announcement because it brings three major titles to the console, and it’s the first time in over ten years that a core *Resident Evil* game – specifically *Resident Evil Requiem* – will be available on a Nintendo platform on its launch day.

Resident Evil Devs Credit ‘Smooth’ Development on Switch 2 for the Upcoming Triple Launch

Masato Kumazawa, producer of *Resident Evil Requiem*, told VGC that the team first tested *Resident Evil Village* on the Switch 2 to see how it ran. They were pleased with the results, finding the process went smoothly. This encouraged Capcom to also port *Requiem*, which Kumazawa said also went well. After successfully getting both games running, the team decided to push further and include *Resident Evil 7* as well.

The Capcom producer explained that because *Resident Evil 7: Biohazard* was previously available on the original Switch through cloud gaming, the development team already had some experience with Nintendo’s hardware, which likely influenced their decision to bring more games to the platform. Additionally, Kumazawa noted that the team felt it was a good idea to release three *Resident Evil* games at the same time. He explained that this would allow new players to easily jump into the three most recent core games in the survival horror series.

The Switch 2 is a significant upgrade in power over the original. Not only do existing Switch games run smoother, but the new hardware allows for demanding, previously unavailable AAA games like *Cyberpunk 2077* to be played on Nintendo consoles. Considering mainline *Resident Evil* games haven’t been natively available on Nintendo for years, Capcom’s choice to release three major titles simultaneously with the Switch 2’s launch makes a lot of sense.

While Capcom, the studio behind *Resident Evil*, has been successfully testing games on the new Switch 2, other developers haven’t had the same opportunity. Reports surfaced in August that Nintendo is restricting access to Switch 2 development kits, which is hindering the growth of the console’s game library. Hopefully, those developers who *have* received kits will be able to make good use of them, just like Capcom seems to be doing.
