Free-to-play games are now very popular on consoles, largely because of the success of titles like *Genshin Impact*. Many newer free-to-play games look and play very similarly to *Genshin Impact*. It’s not surprising – when a game does well, others often try to replicate its success.
With so many games coming out, it’s easy to miss some, but *Ananta* is definitely worth checking out. It’s one of the few free-to-play games that feels fresh and unique, while still having a beautiful look similar to *Genshin Impact*. Will it appeal to players who enjoy games like *Marvel’s Spider-Man* and *Grand Theft Auto 6*? The exciting features already announced suggest *Ananta* could offer a truly special experience.
The Playable Characters
Switching In Real Time
The game *Ananta* appears to center around Chenxiu, a police captain, who has been prominently featured in promotional trailers. A recent trailer revealed that players will be able to switch between different characters, but not in the traditional sense. Like games such as *Grand Theft Auto 5* and *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2*, characters will be living their own lives and pursuing separate activities in the game world.
The game allows players to instantly switch between characters, even if they’re in completely different locations – like going from a character fighting on foot to one driving miles away, or quickly swapping to a sniper providing support. This character-switching mechanic sounds promising from a gameplay perspective, though the specifics haven’t been revealed yet. Players will also be able to customize their characters with new outfits and appearances.
Swinging Around
Venom Is Here
Chenxiu has powers similar to Venom from Spider-Man, allowing him to move around the city by swinging. It’s unclear if anyone else shares this ability or what gives him this power – it might be a special device he uses, or perhaps he’s connected to an alien being.
It’s refreshing to see a character swinging through the world in a game that isn’t a *Spider-Man* title. This swinging ability also appears to be useful in combat, as we see Chenxiu use it to grab onto an enemy in the recent trailer. The trailer also showed characters using glide suits, though it’s unclear if these are a separate way to get around or just part of a specific scene.
The Combat
From Brawling To Shooting
The combat in *Ananta* appears to be visually interesting and offers a lot of variety for an action game. You’ll see characters fighting with their fists, as well as using a range of weapons – everything from large hammers to more unusual items like tennis rackets. One particularly memorable moment shows an enemy being hit with a golf club and sent flying like a golf ball!
The game might feature small side games, or golf clubs could be unusually strong. Several weapons resembling guns, such as rifles and rocket launchers, are also present. While a weapon wheel exists, it’s not yet clear if players can fully equip all the weapons seen in the trailer, or if they’re one-time-use items like in the *Yakuza* series.
The Vehicle Support
From Boats To Helicopters
Honestly, with all the swinging and web-slinging I saw, I wasn’t even thinking about vehicles! But apparently, they’re in there. The latest trailer showed a bunch of different ones – everything from cool sports cars and police cruisers to a boat and even a helicopter. There was this awesome shot of someone launching a motorcycle off a ramp and basically flying through the air, which was pretty epic. So yeah, you can still cruise around in vehicles if you want to!
Unlike games like *Grand Theft Auto*, it’s currently unclear if players will be able to steal cars in this new game. They might need to earn or buy vehicles instead. However, given that players take on the role of police officers, they could potentially use their authority to take control of cars, similar to *L.A. Noire*. Regardless, players who enjoy exploring big city open worlds should have lots of options for getting around.
Stealth Gameplay
And Controlling Gadgets
The new trailer also highlights stealth gameplay. Players can sneak through vents, crouch to stay hidden, and use cover to avoid detection. Chenxiu has a unique ability – tentacle-like extensions – that allow him to reach high places for observation or to infiltrate buildings discreetly.
In the game, players will use a versatile phone with many functions. One useful feature is a spider-like drone that can scout enemies while you sneak into a mission. The recent trailer even showed players using the phone’s camera to take selfies – not exactly a stealth tactic! This suggests that *Ananta* will offer a lot of freedom and flexibility in how you approach each mission.
The Mini-Games
Filling Out The World
Open-world games are known for having lots of little activities to do, and this game is no different. We’ve seen a moment where a character hits a baseball while a dog watches-maybe you’ll be able to play fetch with the dog later on. There’s also a clear scene of characters playing basketball in the street.
One of the game’s funniest side activities lets you participate in a slap-fighting battle – surprisingly, this is an actual sport called Power Slap that’s broadcast on TV! The latest trailer also showed that players can attend concerts as a side activity. This is just a glimpse of the daytime and nighttime activities available in *Ananta*, and we can expect to see even more revealed soon.
