Over the years, many cartoons, films, and video games have been created based on the character, with varying levels of quality and success.
Spider-Man gamesā¦ honestly, there have been a lot of misses over the years. For a long time, it felt like developers just saw Spider-Man as another license to slap on a game, without really getting what makes him special. Thankfully, other developers *did* put in the effort to capture what makes Spider-Man, well, Spider-Man. These Spider-Man games are some of the best (and weirdest) examples, and they all have a place in gaming culture in 2025.

Marvelās Spider-Man marked Insomniac Gamesā first venture into creating a game featuring the famous web-slinging hero. Fortunately, the game skipped the typical origin story and instead focused on a more experienced Peter Parker as he worked to protect New York City from criminal activity. The game’s swinging mechanics feel realistic, and the fighting is smooth, but it’s the compelling narrative that truly brings everything together.
The falling out between Peter and Dr. Octavius is truly sad, even more so than the comparable story in the Spider-Man 2 movie. Marvelās Spider-Man is an excellent entry point for anyone who enjoys Spider-Man, and itās simply a well-made open-world game overall.
Marvelās Spider-Man: Miles Morales
A Shocking New Spider Hits The Scene
Okay, so Marvelās Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the second Spider-Man game Insomniac Games has made – it’s a direct follow-up to their first one. Basically, Peter Parker is out of town on a trip, so he leaves me, Miles, to watch over New York City. It’s awesome, but also a lot of pressure! I’ve got my own stuff to deal with *on top of* trying to be a hero like one of my idols.
Miles is a straightforward kid with a strong desire to support his family, despite some conflicts stemming from the story’s plot. This makes his personal journey just as engaging as Peter’s, even if his villains aren’t as famous. Plus, Miles’ abilities are a little different from Peter’s – things like his use of electricity and invisibility – which add a small but noticeable level of novelty to the gameplay.

Two Spiders Are Better Than One
Marvelās Spider-Man 2 is the newest game in the Spider-Man series from Insomniac Games, finishing a fantastic three-game story arc. The game explores a more troubled side of Peter Parker, as heās taken over by the Venom symbiote, making him stronger but also more dangerous.
Milesā smart thinking helps keep Peter under control, but thatās just a small part of what makes this story great. It’s a game that’s full of feeling, but it’s designed to be fun above all else. You can play as most characters whenever you want, and each one has unique gadgets and abilities to learn. This game, and the entire trilogy, is a must-have for any Spider-Man enthusiast. Definitely worth adding to your collection!
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is often praised as a groundbreaking multiverse film and a great way for new fans to explore the world of Spider-Man. However, the game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions actually did something similar and quite innovative before the movie came out. While The Amazing Spider-Man was the main character, players could also control three different versions of Spider-Man, each in their own unique dimension.
The game featured versions of Spider-Man like Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, and Ultimate Spider-Man. Itās unfortunate that you canāt buy it as a digital download on any platform, and locating a physical copy can be difficult. Still, the effort to find it pays off, because it does some things with classic Spider-Man stories that even the newer Insomniac Gamestitles donāt.

Disney Infinity 2.0 was the second installment in the Disney Infinity series. It expanded the game by including Marvel characters, building on what began as a game focused solely on Disney properties. If youāre unfamiliar with how it worked, you could place any character figurine into an open-world environment to explore and improve their abilities. Play Sets functioned as smaller, self-contained games with unique storylines, and only certain characters were able to play within each one.
When it first came out, the Marvel’s Spider-Man Play Set offered a charming adventure starring Spider-Man and Nova. In addition to those heroes, players could also control Venom and Green Goblin, as well as other Marvel characters who weren’t Spider-Man, such as Nick Fury. The toys-to-life concept was innovative for its time, though it didnāt last long, but Disney Infinity 2.0 and this Spider-Man game are still worth seeking out. There arenāt many Spider-Man games that feature genuine character progression with detailed skill trees.

A good example of this is their work on the Harry Potter games: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for Game Boy Color and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for Game Boy Advance were both role-playing games with turn-based combat, differing from the action and puzzle gameplay of the console versions.
Regarding Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, the developers aimed to create a 2D Metroidvania-style game, which was a bit of a departure for Spider-Man. While it isnāt a standout title in the Metroidvania genre, it’s still enjoyable, offering quick and precise controls and engaging abilities. Given the increased popularity of Metroidvanias since 2008, and Spider-Manās continued success, fans of both might be interested to know this game is still available in 2025.
Spider-Man: The Video Game
A Forgotten Arcade Brawler
Spider-Man: The Video Game first came out in arcades in September 1991, and itās largely stayed there ever since. This is true for a lot of older arcade games, meaning it can be hard to play officially today. Still, itās a noteworthy and unique Marvel game created and released by Sega.
This fighting game features Spider-Man teaming up with Hawkeye, Black Cat, and Sub-Mariner, giving players a roster of four characters to choose from. It’s a pretty unusual group for Spider-Man, although Black Cat fits right in. Fans who enjoy seeing unexpected team-ups in 2025 will find this game especially interesting – itās certainly a strange combination! While the fighting mechanics arenāt as smooth as those in newer games, Spider-Man: The Video Game could still provide a fun multiplayer experience if players can get it working.
