As a long-time fan of Destiny 2, I have seen my fair share of ups and downs with this game. The release of The Final Shape was undoubtedly a highlight for me, bringing engaging storytelling and much-needed improvements to the gameplay experience. However, one area that continues to be a source of frustration is the Exotic class item farm.

In the early days following the launch of “Destiny 2: The Final Shape,” the anticipation was palpable due to the promising storyline resolution to the Light and Darkness conflict and enhanced gameplay features, new activities, and locations. While the game has significantly improved since its post-“Lightfall” state in terms of community engagement, there are still a few concerns that Bungie needs to tackle promptly. One such issue is the Exotic class item farming process in “Destiny 2,” as well as the Exotics themselves. Given their significant role in generating excitement for “The Final Shape,” their current state represents a disappointing turn for players.

As a devoted fan of Destiny 2, I can’t help but express my concerns over the controversy surrounding Exotic class items. Contrary to our initial expectations, these unique gear pieces are primarily obtainable through a cooperative activity designed for two players. The communication and coordination required in this activity set it apart from other methods, making it an unexpected challenge for many of us.

With three classes in Destiny 2, each having 64 distinct rolls for their Exotic class items, the process of obtaining the ideal roll for every class becomes significantly lengthier and more aggravating. This is especially challenging for collectors who aspire to have all possible rolls.

In Destiny 2, there isn’t a specific system in place to ensure fair acquisition of Exotic class items, so the chances remain constant. After finishing the Exotic Dual Destiny mission once, players can rarely find these items in Pale Heart chests and as rewards for completing The Final Shape’s Saga missions. However, due to the extremely low drop rate, quickly running the initial mission remains the most effective strategy.

In simpler terms, using Knockout System in Destiny 2 ensures that once you obtain an Exotic class item, further acquisitions won’t result in duplicates. This helps resolve the issue of obtaining multiple copies while farming for these items. On the contrary, Loot Protection enhances your chances of getting desired drops after a series of unfavorable outcomes.

Regardless of one’s chosen farming method, running Destiny 2‘s Dual Destiny mission, Saga missions, or opening chests in the Pale Heart many times can get quite repetitive and boring. To add insult to injury, one might have to do it a potentially infinite number of times if a specific roll eludes the player. This long grind can become increasingly frustrating the more time one sinks into it, so the community has found several methods to make it easier – but not all of them are in line with what Bungie wants for the game. These methods include:

  • The original Destiny 2 Dual Destiny glitch for double Exotic class items, which was patched relatively fast
  • A new glitch that provides players with another Exotic class item at the end of Dual Destiny, but it’s more convoluted and requires specific set-ups to do
  • AFK farming with macros that allow Guardians to open chests in the Pale Heart without playing, but this is a gray area that may get players banned

Why Bungie Needs to Address Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Item Controversy Sooner Rather Than Later

From my perspective as a dedicated fan, I’ve found that obtaining Exotic class items in “Destiny 2” can feel quite repetitive and frustrating due to the slim chances of getting what I want. Bungie could consider enhancing this experience by providing players with two Exotic class items per run of Dual Destiny, essentially reinstating the original glitch in an official manner. Another possibility would be expanding the number of sources where we can acquire these coveted armor pieces. Given that a knockout system seems unlikely and loot protection might not suffice, this could be a viable solution to make the process more enjoyable for us players.

An alternate solution is to incorporate class items from Destiny 2‘s Exotic system at Rahool’s tower location. However, it’s important to note that Guardians must initially obtain Exotic class items beforehand. This adjustment would introduce more variety in the acquisition process as players could engage in various activities to secure Exotic Engrams and sufficient resources for decoding Exotics into their respective class items.

With an Exotic Engram targeted at Rahool, players can acquire a unique Exotic armor piece through the use of one Exotic Cypher and an Engram, regardless if they have previously unlocked it. However, this option becomes accessible only after resetting Rahool’s rank at least once. At present, Exotic class items cannot be decoded using this method.

Bungie’s decision on changing the Exotic class item farming system in “Destiny 2” is inevitable due to the strong feedback from the community expressing their dissatisfaction with the current process. This was evident in a recent tweet asking for favorite class item combinations, which received numerous replies urging Bungie to acknowledge the issue and make it easier for players to obtain desired items. The longer this concern is overlooked, the more significant the backlash may become, potentially diminishing the enjoyment of any potential solution.
