Minecraft Reveals New Tiered Weapon in the Mounts of Mayhem Update

Minecraft is getting its first new weapon tier in over ten years – the spear! This comes with the release of the exciting Mounts of Mayhem update. The Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update is planned to launch during the 2025 holiday season and will add fresh ways to explore the game world and engage in combat.

One of the biggest reasons I love tiered weapons in Minecraft is how they let you constantly get better. I can always work towards upgrading my weapons through different tiers just by gathering resources in the world. They’ve really built on this over time, adding tiers like copper and netherite, which is awesome. But honestly, the devs haven’t added a new weapon since the hoe way back in the alpha days of 2010! That’s about to change though, with the new Minecraft update coming out later this year.

New Minecraft Tiered Spear Weapon Will Make Jousting Possible

With the new Mounts of Mayhem update coming soon, Minecraft players will be able to craft and use a new weapon: the spear. Players can create a spear by combining two sticks and an ingot. You can use it to attack enemies by either jabbing or charging. Importantly, charging attacks will deal more damage the faster you are moving. This opens up exciting possibilities for jousting – you can use the spear to damage opponents, knock them back, and even force them off their mounts. However, the power of a charge attack depends on how long you’ve been holding the spear.

Eventually, the spear will fall downwards due to its weight. Even in this lowered position, it can still damage enemies, but it won’t push them back. It’s worth noting that better, or higher-tier, spears are heavier, giving players less time to fully charge their attacks. Besides players, Minecraft‘s survival mode will also feature zombies riding zombie horses, and these zombies will be equipped with spears. These spear-wielding zombies will appear at night, increasing the difficulty for players trying to survive after dark.

Although the spear isn’t available just yet, Minecraft recently launched a new update called The Copper Age on September 30th. This update added copper as a new type of material for tools and equipment, along with other features like the Copper Golem creature and improvements to how shelves work. Because of the update’s focus on copper, players can likely expect copper ore to be more useful and sought after than it was previously.
