A recent report details the pull rates for the newest Pokemon TCG set, Mega Evolution, helping players understand how hard it is to find the set’s most valuable cards. This latest addition to the incredibly popular trading card game has launched a new phase with a lot of strong and interesting cards. Mega Evolution brings back Mega Pokemon for the first time since 2016, and also features a collection of powerful Trainer cards. Now, Pokemon TCG enthusiasts are getting a clearer picture of just how rare certain cards are.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game experienced a significant surge in popularity in 2025, thanks to the release of several highly desirable expansions. The year kicked off with “Prismatic Evolutions,” which introduced beautiful new Special Illustration Rare cards featuring all the Eeveelutions. Pokemon also reintroduced Owner’s Pokemon, giving popular characters like Iono and N their own unique Pokemon in the “Journey Together” and “Destined Rivals” sets. A recent report is now revealing some intriguing details about the game’s latest expansion.
According to Pokebeach, a recent study by TCGPlayer has detailed how often different rarities appear in Mega Evolution card packs. The data indicates that Double Rares, the most common rare type, appear in about 1 out of every 5 packs. Illustration Rares and Ultra Rares are a bit harder to find, appearing roughly 1 in 9 and 1 in 12 packs, respectively. Special Illustration Rares, often highly sought-after cards in Mega Evolution, are found approximately once in every 101 packs – making them a little rarer than similar cards from Scarlet and Violet. The newest and most difficult to pull are the Mega Hyper Rares, which appear only once in about 1,260 packs.
Mega Evolution TCG Pull Rates Revealed
- Double Rares: 1 in 5 packs
- Illustration Rares: 1 in 9 packs
- Ultra Rares: 1 in 12 packs
- Special Illustration Rares: 1 in 101 packs
- Mega Hyper Rares: 1 in 1,260 packs
As a Pokemon TCG collector, I was checking out the pull rates for the new Mega Evolution set, and wow, some of these cards are *seriously* hard to get! It looks like, on average, you’d need to open around three full booster boxes just to get one of the Special Illustration Rare cards with the amazing full art. But the Mega Hyper Rares? Forget about it! They’re estimating you’d need to open a whopping 36 booster boxes to pull just *one* of them. And to make things even more challenging, there are only two Mega Hyper Rare cards in the whole set: Mega Gardevoir ex and Mega Lucario ex. It’s going to be a long chase! Definitely a set for dedicated collectors.
As a Pokemon TCG player, I’m really hyped about the rest of the year! It sounds like we’re getting another big set before 2025 is over. Right now, everyone’s talking about “Phantasmal Flames,” which is scheduled to drop on November 14th. I’ve heard the new Mega Charizard X card in that set is going to be amazing. But that’s not all – leaks are already starting to surface about the *next* main set, and people are saying Storm Emeralda might get a new Mega Rayquaza card! Seriously, Pokemon fans like me have a lot to look forward to before the year ends.
