Pokemon GO Reveals August 2024 Community Day Pokemon

Highlights

  • Popplio will be the star of Pokemon GO’s August 2024 Community Day.
  • The upcoming event will take place on August 31, between 2pm and 5pm local time.
  • Evolving Popplio during the event or up to five hours afterward will result in a Brionne with Hydro Cannon.

As a dedicated Pokémon GO trainer with years of experience under my belt, I am thrilled to hear that Popplio will be the star of the next Community Day event. This news comes as no surprise to me and many other trainers in the community who have been speculating for months about which Gen 7 starter would get its turn in the spotlight.

In August 2024 towards its close, Popplio will be the star of the next Pokemon GO Community Day, as announced by Niantic.

A significant number of Pokémon GO fans have speculated for some time that Popplio could be the focus of next month’s Community Day. This theory gained traction due to the August 2023 Community Day featuring Froakie, the Gen 6 Water starter. Since then, Popplio, being the oldest Water-type starter still waiting for its own CD event, fueled these suspicions further.

Pokemon GO Popplio Community Day Announced for August 31

The prediction was right on the money: Niantic has confirmed that the Gen 7 Water-starter will headline the upcoming Pokemon GO Community Day on August 31, from 2pm to 5pm local time. During this three-hour span, players can expect an increase in the appearance of the starters in the wild, along with a higher chance of encountering a shiny Popplio variant. Additionally, any Popplio evolved during the event or within five hours afterward will turn into Brionne, which knows the powerful Water-type move Hydro Cannon – a valuable addition to players’ arsenals due to its high damage and stability.

During the same period, developing Brionne into Primarina will allow it to learn the move Sparkling Aria. Although less frequently used in Pokemon GO competitive battles, this charge attack could prove incredibly effective in the Great and Ultra Leagues due to Primarina’s unique Water/Fairy typing, providing extensive coverage. According to Niantic’s recent announcement, Sparkling Aria will not be limited to events and will continue to be accessible after August 31.

As a passionate Pokémon trainer, I’m thrilled to share that during the Community Day event, I’ll get a new $1 Special Research Story to explore. Plus, there will be common perks like doubled Candy and tripled XP for capturing monsters. Fun photobombing events, limited only to this promotion, are also on the agenda, along with a 50% discount on Stardust used in trades. Once the Community Day concludes, I’ll have a chance to conquer four-star Raids featuring Brionne. Overcoming any one of these Raids will result in Popplio appearing more frequently near the Gym where the Raid took place for a 30-minute window following the battle.

If Niantic consistently chooses Water-type starters for summer Community Days, there’s a possibility that Sobble will be the focus in August 2025. However, it’s important to note that this isn’t set in stone. The Gen 8 starter Sobble is among the Galar Pokemon yet to join Pokemon GO as of July 2024.
