Bloober Team Comments on the Future of Cronos

Cronos: The New Dawn is expected to grow into a larger franchise over the next few years, according to statements made by its developer, Bloober Team. First released on September 5th, Cronos: The New Dawn is a unique survival horror game created by the Polish studio, which is supported by Tencent.

I’ve been really impressed with Bloober Team lately. They’ve made some seriously spooky games like the Layers of Fear series and, more recently, the Silent Hill 2 remake – they’ve clearly learned a lot about making horror games. While everyone’s been talking about how well they handled the Konami IP, they’ve also proven they can create amazing original games too. With the release of Cronos: The New Dawn, they now have another solid survival horror franchise to build on, and it looks like that’s exactly what they’re planning to do. They’re really establishing themselves as a go-to developer for the genre, and I’m excited to see what scary things they come up with next. It’s a good time to be a horror fan!

During a recent investor Q&A (reported by Stockwatch), Bloober Team’s leadership stated that while the developers of Cronos: The New Dawn are currently focused on a different project, they “definitely” plan to return to the Cronos IP in the future and develop it “in many different ways.” Regarding downloadable content (DLC) for the game, the studio confirmed they aren’t working on any at the moment, but haven’t dismissed the possibility for the future. When questioned about a potential link between the Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team responded indirectly, mentioning they are “planning various cross-promotional activities.” Additionally, the Polish developer shared that they were discussing “a number of marketing activities” for Cronos, potentially including promotions for the Halloween season.

Regarding its financial outlook, Bloober Team expressed strong optimism about the potential of Cronos: The New Dawn, anticipating “significant profits” from the game’s recent release. The studio hailed the launch as “a huge success” and stated that the horror game is expected to be profitable going forward, not only generating revenue but also bolstering Bloober Team’s standing in the industry. It was also pointed out that Cronos is selling better on consoles than on PC, with Steam accounting for only “about 25%” of total copies sold. It’s important to remember that this figure doesn’t include sales from the Epic Games Store and GOG, meaning the proportion of PC sales could be even smaller.

Fans who liked Cronos: The New Dawn will likely be happy to hear Bloober Team is optimistic about the future of the series. Their mention of looking into many different ways to expand the IP could hint at plans to adapt the game into other formats. However, since the core team that worked on Cronos is currently focused on a different project, it might be a while before we get any news about what’s next for the brand.
