How to Upgrade Wolf in Ghost of Yotei

The Wolf is one of the first characters Atsu meets in Ghost of Yotei, appearing on her very first night in Ezo. They cross paths repeatedly throughout the game, but their connection goes beyond just needing to survive or wanting fish. The Wolf can fight alongside Atsu, acting as a powerful ally in battle, but calling upon the Wolf isn’t straightforward – it’s not like simply drawing your weapon or calling for a horse. We’ve outlined below how to summon the Wolf in Ghost of Yotei, and how to improve her abilities.

How to Summon the Wolf in Ghost of Yotei

First, go to the Settings menu and choose Gameplay. Make sure “Wolf Appearances” is turned On, or the Wolf won’t show up. When you begin Ghost of Yotei, the Wolf will appear randomly, and there’s a small chance it will come to Atsu’s rescue if she falls in battle-almost like an extra life. While getting the Wolf to appear is usually random, there’s a way to make it happen more easily. Players need to learn the Song of the Wolf on their Shamisen; playing this song before a fight will call the Wolf to fight alongside you. You can learn the song after completing 4 Wolf Dens, and then activate it by swiping Left on the Touch Pad. Finishing Wolf Dens also strengthens the connection between Atsu and the Wolf, and after completing 5 Wolf Dens, you’ll be able to give her a name.

The Wolf character possesses unique abilities that players can improve. To do this, you’ll need to locate Wolf Dens. You can find these dens by simply exploring the world and following the golden birds that appear, or by buying maps from the Cartographer, who can be found in towns and inns. There are a total of 10 Wolf Dens hidden throughout Ezo. Successfully completing a Wolf Den will reward you with a skill point, which can only be used to upgrade the Wolf, and here’s a breakdown of what each one does:
