As a seasoned investigative journalist from the bustling streets of London, I’ve seen it all. But nothing could have prepared me for the wild and unpredictable world of extreme weather chasers. So when I was assigned to report on Tyler and his crew, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation.
The movie titled “Twisters” does not continue the storyline of the 1996 film nor is it a new version of it. Instead, this production introduces us to Kate, an up-and-coming meteorologist with a fascination for tornadoes. One of her research projects takes a turn for the worse, causing her to withdraw from the field for five long years. Unexpectedly, she is drawn back into the tornado chasing world once more.
At this point, she encounters her most formidable rival, Tyler – an up-and-coming YouTube sensation who shares her passion for tornadoes. Which of them will ultimately prevail? The storyline remains the same, but like the original film “Twisters,” it’s filled with memorable lines and profound reflections to savor.

8 “It’s Gonna Be Okay.”
Jeb
As a huge fan of Twister, I must admit that the movie starts off with an heart-stopping bang! The majority of the cast met their unfortunate end as the tornado struck, leaving just Kate and Javi alive. Amidst the chaos and excitement, their truck couldn’t withstand the power of nature. We were all on the edge of our seats as they sprinted towards an underpass for shelter, only Kate and Jeb making it in time to escape the wrath of the tornado.
While Jeb shields Kate from the impending danger, he reassures her with comforting words that all will be well and that she’s not alone. However, just as those words bring solace, Jeb is swept away by the tornado. These phrases linger in Kate’s mind throughout the movie, having a significant impact on her, for good or ill.
7 “Get Your A** Out Of The Street!”
New York Driver
Five years have passed in the movie, with Kate now living and working as a meteorologist in New York City. At some point, Javi, the other survivor, manages to locate her. When Javi inquires about life in the city, Kate expresses her affection for it, all while being bothered by a bothersome driver on the streets.
I find it amusing, looking back on it, how differently I perceived New York City’s reception compared to reality. Deep down, I was clinging to my rural upbringing, craving the wide-open spaces and greenery – a truth I refused to acknowledge.
6 “Yeah, And Everyone With A Weather App.”
Scott
After some persuasion from Javi and his group, Kate ultimately decides to join them for a week-long adventure in Oklahoma. Their initial destination is a gas station, which serves as a gathering place for Javi’s team, as well as numerous other groups. These include YouTubers, tourists, and various streamers, all eagerly anticipating the opportunity to witness a tornado.
Kate inquires the reason behind Scott’s response when he says this. Essentially, he’s suggesting that chasing tornados is no longer a job but rather a pastime, prioritizing personal interest over larger benefits. This concept could make for an intriguing continuation of a beloved disaster film like Twister.
5 “If You Feel It, Chase It.”
Tyler
At the truck stop, Glen Powell’s character, Tyler, makes his appearance after some time. He rules over the streamer culture with his boisterous and loud demeanor, distinctly Southern accent in speech and mannerisms, and undeniable swagger.
His channel’s slogan is, “Follow your instincts and go after it.” It might appear that Tyler is motivated solely by excitement, but there’s depth hidden beneath his cowboy persona. Don’t make assumptions about Kate based on appearances; the true value of her books lies within their pages.
4 “I’m Assuming This Is Safe.”
Ben
An investigative journalist named Ben, hailing from London, covers stories on Tyler and his team. He’s a rather timid person, and it’s amusing to observe him mingling with Tyler and his companions. In the midst of an early tornado, Ben inquires about the safety of driving into one – needless to say, this is not a wise decision.
He’s trying to fool himself into thinking Tyler and his crew are valuing safety over thrills. He would be dead wrong on that front but thankfully Ben never dies. He just pukes a little from the “thrill.”
3 “This Ain’t My First Rodeo.”
Kate
“This isn’t my first time experiencing or participating in that situation” is a possible paraphrase of “Thus ain’t my first rodeo.” It conveys the same idea that the person has been through the experience before and may have some insight or expertise to offer. In the context of the movie “Twister,” this quote can be taken both metaphorically, as a reference to the many storms the characters have encountered, and literally, as a statement about their extensive knowledge and experience in tornado chasing.
At a rodeo, Tyler accompanies Kate. She clarifies that this isn’t her initial experience with such events. Contrary to Tyler’s assumption, she was born and raised in Oklahoma, making her far from an innocent urban dweller. In turn, Tyler also discovers new facets of himself as he reveals a more compassionate and experienced self to Kate.
2 “Have You Been In A Car Before?”
Tyler
After Kate begins to trust Tyler, she hops into his truck for a brief tornado wrangling excursion. While seated, she’s fiddling with various switches and gathering different items. It is then that Tyler delivers this line, addressing Kate as if she were an overexcited child.
As a seasoned observer of human behavior and body language, I find that scene incredibly endearing and full of playful tension. With a twinkle in their eyes, both Kate and Tyler lower their walls towards each other, showcasing their vulnerability and readiness for connection. Now, I’ve been around the block a few times, and I know that behind those defenses lie complex individuals with unique quirks and talents.
1 “You Can’t Park Your Car Here!”

In the film, only one noteworthy cameo appears among a few others. Notably, Paul Scheer is an accomplished comedian and character actor in various productions. He is best recognized by enthusiasts of quirky films for his movie podcast, titled “How Did This Get Made.”
As a devoted gamer, I can’t help but share my perspective on Paul Scheer’s cameo in the movie “Twisters.” In this thrilling production, I take on the role of the security guard at the airport drive-up. Towards the end of the film, I make an appearance trying to persuade Tyler to vacate the premises. Although my screen time is limited, Scheer’s performance as the security guard leaves a lasting impression on fans due to his distinctive lines and unforgettable presence.
