How to Climb Owl Mountain in Ghost of Yotei

As I’ve been playing Ghost of Yotei, I’ve found there’s a ton to do – loads of Side Tales to finish, bounties to hunt down, and collectibles scattered everywhere. The good news is, getting different weapons isn’t too hard, because the quests to unlock them are pretty simple. But honestly, the real challenge is actually *getting* to the Master in the first place!

The Kusarigama can be found on Owl Mountain. The guide below provides a straightforward path to get there quickly, helping you steer clear of enemies and avoid the cold in Ghost of Yotei.

How to Reach Owl Mountain in Ghost of Yotei

When you arrive in the northern area, Teshio Ridge, you’ll encounter a new game feature where your health bar begins to freeze. This lowers your maximum health and blurs your vision if you remain in the cold for an extended period. Once you’ve completed the initial section with the Kitsune and explored the area, you’ll find a quest called The Way of the Kusarigama marked on your map. Completing this quest will reward you with the Kusarigama weapon, but it’s located far north at Owl Mountain.

Because the Red Crane Inn is shown on your map and is where the story continues, head there first. You don’t have to go *inside* the Inn or begin the story segment right away. Just getting to the location unlocks it as a fast travel point, allowing you to travel to Owl Mountain from there. Be careful on your journey, as you’ll pass through areas where you might start to get cold and could even run into a bounty target.

Starting from the Inn, go northwest in the direction of the Teshio River. If you see a wooden house on your right, you’re heading the right way. Continue following the icy river that’s to the left of the house. Stay with the river until you find a path leading to the right; this path will take you to the Kitsune Altar within the Sarobetsu Forest, where you’ll be able to tackle one of the puzzles.

From this point, continue traveling north until you arrive at Sarobetsu Lake. If you haven’t been here before, be prepared to encounter several enemies near the corpses, including Snowstorm Katagiri, who is marked as a bounty target.

Feel free to continue riding if you prefer, but defeating these enemies and the main target will reward you with 1500 Coins from Kojiro.

At the Sarobetsu Lake, it’s going to get very cold, but your goal is to reach the Nakajima Sake House. You can rest there before continuing. Begin riding north on your horse now, staying along the frozen lake and passing through the orange trees. You’ll soon see a road to follow. When the road forks near the wooden carvings, turn left and continue on that path towards the bridge in the distance.

Welcome to Owl Mountain. As soon as you cross the bridge, The Way of the Kusarigama quest will start. You’ll immediately receive the Kusarigama weapon, but you won’t be able to leave the area and effectively use it against shielded enemies until you finish the quest.
