Images showing the progress of Aspyr’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake have surfaced online. An artist who worked on the game shared these images, giving fans a look at what the remake – which was later canceled and moved to a different developer – might have looked like.
The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is now available on current gaming consoles through ports, but fans were thrilled when a complete remake was announced in 2021. Unfortunately, excitement faded quickly. In 2022, the developer Aspyr dismissed both the art and design directors, and ultimately left the project later that year. Saber Interactive took over the remake, but there haven’t been any significant updates about it since.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Assets Revealed
Recently, several development pictures from Aspyr’s remake of Knights of the Old Republic have surfaced online. MP1ST reports that an artist who previously worked at Aspyr shared these images as part of their portfolio. The majority of the pictures showcase assets intended for the game, such as weapons – including a blaster, blaster rifle, and Vibroblades. The collection also features computer interfaces and props that would have likely been seen throughout the game’s world.

Besides the images, the artist shared some information about the game’s features. Aspyr’s KOTOR remake was planned to include a system where players could improve their weapons by swapping out and upgrading different parts. People who are fans of the series and have seen the images are especially excited about how the Vibroblades look, and they’ve also been impressed by the realistic quality of some of the artwork.

Aside from briefly letting fans know the project is still happening, Saber Interactive’s KOTOR remake hasn’t had much news lately. Even if it does eventually come out after a difficult development process, it’s doubtful that any of these previously shown materials will make it into the final game, or that the released version will look similar, now that a new developer is in charge. Because the original Aspyr version of the KOTOR remake began development a long time ago, a remake by Saber Interactive could potentially look even more impressive than what we’ve seen so far. Only time will tell if that turns out to be true.
