Okay, so I’m super hyped about Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Survivor! It’s a new free-to-play mobile game coming out in 2026, and it’s a survival roguelike – which sounds awesome. We’ve seen a few Hunter X Hunter games before, but Nen X Survivor seems like something totally new for the series, which is really exciting!
Recently, followers of the Hunter X Hunter series enjoyed Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Impact, a 2D fighting game with many well-known characters from the anime and manga. Although the game received somewhat mixed reactions on Steam and didn’t become a critical success, its creator, Bushiroad Inc., appears to be developing a new game, but it will be a very different type of game than before.
Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Survivor Seems to Be a Brotato-Like Roguelike Game
In a brief video, publisher Bushiroad Inc. announced that their new project, Nen X Survivor, is a mobile survival roguelike game coming to iOS and Android in 2026. The gameplay of Nen X Survivor looks a lot like games such as Brotato, with a top-down perspective and waves of enemies that players must overcome using character skills and upgrades. A key feature is the ability to build a “dream team” featuring famous Hunter X Hunter characters like Gon, Killua, Hisoka, and Netero. While preregistration isn’t available yet, fans can follow the game’s official Twitter account for the latest news and updates.
Similar to many roguelike games on mobile, Nen X Survivor seems to focus on character movement, as characters will automatically attack enemies close by. The announcement video hints at a possible story mode or campaign, and also suggests players will be able to customize their character’s skills and stats with role-playing features. It’s currently unknown if you’ll unlock Hunter X Hunter characters through a gacha system or by making progress in the game. What we do know is that the game will have in-app purchases, which suggests that some well-known characters or items to change their appearance might require payment.

Although the name sounds similar to a previous Bushiroad project, the new Nen X Survivor doesn’t seem to have any connection to the anime fighting game Nen X Impact. Still, some fans are hopeful, thinking the name suggests a potential expansion of the “Nen” series. Others question if Bushiroad is the best developer for Hunter X Hunter games, pointing to the performance of Nen X Impact as a reason why the franchise might have benefited from a different partner. Ultimately, it’s still unclear how Nen X Survivor will do and if it will become a well-liked game in the series.
