EA Sports FC 26 has significantly updated the ‘Clubs’ game mode, where teams of up to 11 players compete against each other, each controlling a single player. This mode, featuring leagues to climb, player development, and extensive customization, has become a fan favorite within the EA Sports FC series. However, the new system for improving players – using Archetypes and Attribute Points – has left some players wondering how to unlock more Archetypes in EA FC 26‘s Clubs mode.
Previously, your player in Clubs gained Skill Points by leveling up through experience. You earned this experience by playing matches and succeeding in them. These Skill Points could then be used to improve your player’s abilities in different skill trees. This system let players customize their characters to excel in various positions, and even create different ‘builds’ for their player to suit different playstyles.
In EA FC 26, the player creation process is a little different now. When you first create your player, you’ll choose from a few different Archetypes. This gives them a starting set of attributes and generally determines what position they’ll be best at. For instance, a Target Man archetype is perfect for a Striker, while a Recycler is a better fit for a Central Defensive Midfielder.
Unlocking More Archetypes in EA FC 26 Clubs
You can unlock Archetypes for your Clubs player in three different ways: purchasing them with Coins, buying them with EA Sports FC Points, or by using an Archetype unlock token. I’ll go into more detail about each of these methods below.
Buying Archetypes with Coins or EA Sports FC Points

I’m combining these two topics since they’re very similar. Within the Clubs game mode, go to the ‘Player’ menu and select ‘Archetypes’ to view all 13 options. You can choose one by using the left analog stick. On the right side of the screen, under the ‘Unlock Archetype’ heading, you’ll find the option to ‘Use 25,000 Coins’ or ‘Use 200 EA Sports FC Points’ to unlock it.
Choose either of these options (if you have the necessary funds), and you can then complete your purchase.
Unlocking with Archetype Unlock Tokens

Right under where you choose your currency, you’ll notice another way to unlock stuff – it has a little silver token icon beside it. That’s an Archetype Unlock token! I can earn these by finishing challenges in the game, or just by leveling up my EA Sports FC 26 Season Pass. Like, I remember getting one after hitting level 14 on the Season Pass – it just popped up as a reward.
Your progress with the Season Pass carries over between all the different ways you play the game, meaning you don’t have to focus solely on playing Clubs matches. You can make progress in any game mode!
How to Level Up Archetypes in EA FC 26 Clubs

Archetypes improve only as you actively use them. Experience gained during a match becomes Attribute Points, and these points can *only* be spent on upgrading the attributes of the Archetype you’re currently developing. To raise an Archetype’s level, navigate to the Player menu, select Edit Archetypes, choose the Archetype you have equipped, and then select ‘Edit’.
You can now choose an attribute to improve and use Attribute Points to increase its level. The number of Attribute Points needed will vary based on the attribute’s current level. For instance, if your Sprint Speed is 70, it will probably cost just one Attribute Point to raise it. But if it’s already at 85, increasing it might take 12 Attribute Points.
After you’ve distributed your Attribute Points to the desired upgrades, simply choose the confirm option located at the bottom of the screen, and your Archetype will be upgraded.
Employing custom tactics within Clubs is an excellent method to enhance your team’s performance, particularly if you’re relying on AI to manage certain players. It’s a good way to fine-tune how your team plays when you’re not directly controlling every action.
