Highlights
- Concord’s open beta and low wishlist ranking on Steam suggest a bleak future for the upcoming hero shooter.
- Despite some positive player feedback, the title faces significant challenges due to negative initial reactions and overall lack of interest.
- With the release date approaching, Concord’s struggle to generate buzz among gamers indicates potential trouble in the competitive gaming market.
As a long-time fan of hero shooters and someone who has followed the gaming industry closely, I can’t help but feel disheartened by the lackluster reception that Concord seems to be experiencing. The open beta numbers and low wishlist ranking on Steam are concerning indicators of things to come for this new entry into the competitive gaming market.
Concord’s situation is deteriorating. The open beta on Steam failed to attract more than 2,000 players, and now it’s been announced that the hero shooter isn’t even among the top 750 most wished-for games on Steam. This is a concerning development for a new live service game published by Sony.
Right from the beginning, Concord faced criticism as soon as news broke out about it this year. Following its introduction during PlayStation’s State of Play event in May, fans quickly expressed their discontent through an overwhelming number of dislikes and unfavorable comments, indicating their growing frustration with the frequent release of hero shooter games.
Critics and enthusiasts alike were quick to point out similarities between Concord and other popular hero shooter games, leading some to criticize the game for being indistinguishable in the genre. Additionally, accusations emerged that one of Concord’s characters bore a striking resemblance to a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy boss figure, fueling further controversy. As a result, the launch of Concord received less than favorable reviews from the community.
Despite this, many people who tested the open beta expressed favorable responses towards the shooter game. A few went as far as claiming it surpasses Overwatch in their opinion.
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel disappointed when I see that even a favorable response from the community may not be sufficient to prevent a game like Concord from being removed from Steam. It’s disheartening to think that all the effort and enthusiasm put into supporting this title might ultimately go unrewarded.
Concord’s Steam Wishlists Paint A Bleak Future For The New Shooter
According to TheGamer’s findings, Concord ranks significantly lower than the top 750 most wished-for games on Steam. Given that it’s a live-service game produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the lack of interest on such a vast platform as Steam is cause for concern.
Currently, Black Myth: Wukong, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Frostpunk 2, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and Monster Hunter Wilds are the most popular games on Steam based on wishlists. These titles span various genres but Concord, or Marvel Rivals as another hero shooter, is positioned in the top 15, despite an unannounced release date.
The release date for Concord on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam is set for August 23rd. This implies that the game is just about a month from hitting the shelves. Unfortunately, we don’t have information regarding the performance of the open beta on PlayStation. However, the situation seems less than ideal for the title on Steam.
