I’ve been thrilled to see Electronic Arts creatively promoting The Sims 4: Lovestruck with a witty Tinder ad series! This ingenious marketing campaign began right as the newest expansion pack for The Sims 4 was about to drop.

Just as the title suggests, “Lovestruck” is an expansion pack for “The Sims 4” focusing on romance. This DLC introduces a new attraction system based on “attractions” and “repulsions,” in addition to a romantic world called Ciudad Enamorada, spread across three neighborhoods. Before the Drop-in Content’s launch, Electronic Arts creatively promoted “Lovestruck” through a marketing campaign that mimicked Tinder profiles. A Reddit user named WellPlaidSwitch discovered this innovative advertising strategy, as Tinder began displaying fake profiles for The Sims character, Bella Goth. Her description read, “A romantic soul seeking joyful moments under the night sky,” and included multiple images of her in her famous red gown.

As a long-time fan of The Sims series, I was absolutely thrilled when I came across Tinder profiles featuring Bella, a new character from the latest expansion pack, Lovestruck. Swiping right on her profile felt like a magical moment, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when she initiated a chat with me in her unique Simlish language. Her mysterious greeting, “sul sul,” only added to the intrigue.

After pondering over EA’s promotional campaign for the series, some avid fans were taken aback by the selection of Bella Goth as the face of the ads. This came as a shock since in The Sims lore, Bella is married to Mortimer and has two children with him. It’s speculated that EA chose her due to her high recognition value within the franchise.

An alternate perspective holds that including Bella in the Tinder promotion serves as a discreet method for publicizing the new polyamorous relationships option in the game. This long-awaited feature is linked to the “Lovestruck” expansion, but was unexpectedly introduced during a free update on July 18 for “The Sims 4”. The “Lovestruck” expansion is set to launch at 10am PT / 1pm ET on July 25, which is just around the corner as we speak.
