Ghost of Yotei has had a very successful launch, actually surpassing the sales of Ghost of Tsushima. Players are enjoying the game without any major crashes or bugs, and while it doesn’t drastically change the formula of Ghost of Tsushima, the improvements it offers are welcome.
It’s always satisfying to disarm enemies and use their own weapons against them, and the game’s new combat system offers a lot more options. However, Ghost of Yotei isn’t flawless, and Sucker Punch could make a few improvements to make it easier to use. These are just a few ideas that players would likely welcome.
Play Zeni Hajiki At Camp
A Randomizer To Play With Your Wolf Pack
A standout feature in *Ghost of Yotei* is the Zeni Hajiki mini-game. It’s a simple but addictive coin-tapping game where you flick coins across a table to score points. Like many great open-world games, it’s easy to pick up and hard to put down.
Sucker Punch could make Zeni Hajiki even better in a couple of ways. One simple addition would be letting players challenge NPCs to a game right at their safe camp, similar to inviting a friend. A more ambitious update would be online multiplayer, accessible from the main menu – it would take more work, but it would be a really cool feature.
More Photo Mode Options For Atsu
Strike A Pose
Sucker Punch is well-known for including excellent photo modes in their games. Both *Ghost of Tsushima* and *Ghost of Yotei* offer great options, though players often suggest even more features could be added to enhance the experience.
While players can change Atsu’s facial expressions, they don’t offer much variety and don’t really enhance photos. Unlike games like Insomniac’s Spider-Man, you can’t move Atsu around to create different shots. To improve the photo mode in *Ghost of Yotei*, it would be great to have more expressive and dynamic expressions, as well as the ability to pose the character.
Replay Missions
Learn From Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 introduced several new elements to the series, most notably the ability to replay completed missions. This is a feature missing from many open-world games, like Ghost of Yotei. Even though Borderlands 4 wasn’t as successful as Gearbox hoped, games such as Ghost of Yotei could benefit from its design choices, particularly the option to revisit missions after finishing them.
Ghost of Yotei features several excellent side quests, such as ‘The Spider Lily General.’ While the main story has some truly impressive scenes, it would be fantastic if players could revisit those specific moments without needing to play through the whole game again.
Skip Through Dialogue
And Cutscenes
Ghost of Yotei offers exciting features and diverse ways to experience the game, but it surprisingly lacks some common elements found in many open-world titles. For example, players are unable to speed up or skip conversations with characters.
Almost all of the game’s cinematic cutscenes, which are shown in a wide-screen format, can be skipped. However, the inconsistency of which scenes are skippable—including relaxing moments like the Hot Springs meditations—doesn’t make much sense. Allowing players to skip both dialogue and all story cutscenes would greatly improve the experience.
Let The Horse Guide You
Set A Location And Sit Back
Riding the horse in *Ghost of Yotei* can make traveling feel really smooth and cinematic. But players might not always want to steer for long distances. Some other open-world games let you set a destination and have your mount travel there on its own, and it would be great to have that option in this game too.
Games like *Assassin’s Creed* show that letting players automatically navigate can be really helpful, even if it’s not flawless. *Ghost of Yotei* would benefit from a similar feature, giving players who want to explore the world naturally an alternative to quick travel.
Saving And Menu Tweaks
Load Into Your Game

A standout feature of *Ghost of Yotei* is its quick travel system, which is essential given the game’s many different locations and impressively fast loading times. However, despite how quickly you can move around, the game lacks a convenient way to load saved games. While you can save almost anywhere outside of combat, loading those saves requires returning to the main menu – a slightly cumbersome process.
When players launch the game, it immediately loads their last saved game instead of showing the title screen. While it’s possible to go back to the title screen, it would be more convenient to have a couple of new loading options. First, we should add a “load” option alongside the “save” option in the game’s menu. Second, players should be able to choose whether the game starts by loading their last save or by displaying the title screen.
Upgrading The Spyglass
Tagging Enemies

A standout feature of *Ghost of Tsushima* was Jin’s ability to use Focused Hearing, which helped players sneak into enemy areas by pinpointing enemy locations – it worked a lot like Eagle Vision in the *Assassin’s Creed* series. *Ghost of Yotei* also includes a similar ability, but you’ll need to progress through the game before you can unlock it.
The game has a Spyglass that players can use to scout distant locations, especially from high points like watchtowers or cliffs. Currently, while it lets you see enemies in camps, it doesn’t allow you to mark them all – a feature found in *Death Stranding 2: On the Beach*. It would be a useful improvement if the developers tweaked the Spyglass in *Ghost of Yotei* to help players better plan stealthy approaches to enemy camps, letting them move like true ninjas.
