As a longtime Marvel fan and avid gamer, I am beyond excited about the latest additions to Marvel Rivals’ closed beta: Thor and Jeff the Land Shark. The hype around this game has been building up since its announcement, and with each new character reveal, my anticipation grows.
Two new characters are joining the playable roster in the ongoing closed beta of Marvel Rivals: the powerful Thor, the God of Thunder, and Jeff, the Land Shark. NetEase Games has already announced a diverse selection of 21 heroes and villains for players to choose from in Marvel Rivals before the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 convention.
At present, a restricted number of gamers are immersing themselves in the intense 6vs6 arena combat of Marvel Rivals, during its ongoing closed beta phase. The beta trial will last until August 5 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Amazingly, more than 50,000 players took part in this beta’s debut day, an impressive feat considering the exclusive invitations required for participation. The gamers have ample fresh content to engage with, including the in-game Galacta’s Quest event and the imminent “War of the Realms” 6vs6 tournament.
During San Diego Comic-Con 2024, a fresh cinematic trailer for “Marvel Rivals” was unveiled, showcasing several Marvel heroes clashing against Doctor Doom’s robot horde in a devastated urban landscape. Among the team is Thor, officially joining “Marvel Rivals,” wielding his iconic Mjolnir hammer. In a lighter vein, a second trailer introduced Jeff the Land Shark to the lineup. This adorable, shark-shaped character was seen joyfully singing along to the “Marvel Rivals” theme song and releasing bubbles in response. Both Thor and Jeff will be accessible for beta testing in the “Marvel Rivals” closed beta on July 27.
Marvel Rivals Thor and Jeff the Land Shark Release Date
- July 27, 2024
While Thor’s inclusion in Marvel Rivals was almost a given due to his status as a founding member of the Avengers with a large list of video game appearances under his belt already, Jeff the Land Shark’s appearance might be a shock for gamers. A relative newcomer to the Marvel Universe, Jeff was first introduced in the pages of West Coast Avengers Vol. 3 #7 in January 2019 as a pet/attack dog for Gwenpool. Before his upcoming role in Marvel Rivals, Jeff was featured as a playable character in mobile games like Marvel Puzzle Quest and Marvel Snap.
As a longtime Marvel Comics fan and avid gamer, I’m thrilled to see the addition of less-known characters like Jeff the Land Shark to the roster of Marvel Rivals. Having grown up reading comic books, I’ve always appreciated the vast array of unique and diverse heroes that Marvel has to offer. It’s not just about the household names like Iron Man and Star-Lord; it’s also about the underdogs, the newcomers, and the unexpected characters that add depth and excitement to the universe.
