In *Megabonk*, building up your Critical Hit Chance is incredibly rewarding. Seeing huge damage numbers with every attack is a key part of the game, but *Megabonk* does something unique with this stat. While many games limit Critical Hit Chance to 100%, *Megabonk* lets you go even higher. Going over 100% unlocks special ‘Over-Crits’ and ‘Mega-Crits’, which offer even more damage. This guide will explain how these mechanics work and why you should always aim to increase your Critical Hit Chance in *Megabonk*.
What Does Crit Chance Over 100% Do in Megabonk?
In *Megabonk*, critical hits are a core way to inflict extra damage. Normally, a critical hit doubles the power of your attack, increased further by your Critical Damage Multiplier (which is usually 2x by default). You can find items, upgrades, and Tomes in *Megabonk* that improve both how often you land critical hits and how much extra damage they deal, resulting in more frequent and powerful attacks.
Many roguelike and arena games max out at 100% critical hit chance, meaning every hit becomes a guaranteed critical. However, Megabonk goes further – it continues to scale beyond 100%. Any chance to critically hit *above* 100% adds even more damage multipliers to your already guaranteed critical hit. These are often called “Over-Crits”.
The great thing is that each additional critical hit allows your critical damage to be applied multiple times. Instead of just doubling your damage, you could potentially quadruple, sextuple, or even octuple it, depending on how often you land critical hits. This creates a snowball effect, meaning that builds focused on both critical hit chance and critical hit damage can achieve incredibly high damage output.
Megabonk Over-Crit Mechanic, Explained
Over-Crits are what make Megabonk’s combat system so explosively fun. Here’s how it works:
- 100% Crit Chance: Every hit will crit once (normal critical hit).
- 101%–200% Crit Chance: Your hit crits once, and the extra percentage is the chance to crit again (double crit).
- 201%–300% Crit Chance: Your hit crits twice, and the excess is a chance for a third crit (triple crit).
- 301%–400% Crit Chance: Your hit crits three times, and the excess is a chance for a fourth crit and so on.
Every 100% Crit Chance ensures one guaranteed critical hit, while any remaining percentage represents the chance to score an additional critical hit. For instance, with 150% Crit Chance, every hit will always crit at least once, and there’s a 50% chance it will crit a second time.
What are Mega-Crits in Megabonk?
In addition to regular critical hits, there’s a special ability called Mega-Crits. These are often triggered by unique items in the game Megabonk, such as the Giant Fork, which can sometimes turn a normal critical hit into a much more powerful Mega-Crit.
Mega-Crits add even more damage on top of your regular critical hits. What’s cool is that if your chance to critically hit goes above 100%, you have a small chance to land a Mega-Crit – specifically, a 0.1% chance for every 10% your crit chance is over 100%. This allows you to potentially trigger multiple critical hit multipliers and a Mega-Crit simultaneously, leading to massive damage.
