When Battlefield 6 was officially unveiled, Electronic Arts and its development teams highlighted the new Portal feature. Portal is essentially a creative sandbox, letting players design their own unique gameplay experiences by customizing Battlefield’s tools and creating custom game modes.
Battlefield 2042’s Portal feature let players revisit classic maps and use weapons and vehicles from older games, which was a hit with fans. However, it seems very few players are interested in the Portal mode in Battlefield 6, despite its return.
88% of Battlefield Players Don’t Care About Portal
An email from Electronic Arts included a survey asking Battlefield fans to choose which feature they were most excited about in the upcoming Battlefield 6.
By order of most popular to least popular, here are the results of that poll:
- Tactical Destruction – 39%
- Return of Campaign – 30%
- Maps, Modes, and Weapons – 18%
- Portal – 12%
The desire for a single-player campaign in the next Battlefield game is significantly stronger than interest in new maps, game modes, or weapons – it’s getting almost twice as many votes! While the campaign trailer looks promising and is a great addition, most players traditionally focus on the multiplayer experience.
It’s no surprise that the extensive destruction is a key feature of the new Battlefield game. This was a major focus during the beta testing phase, and early previews showed incredibly realistic and detailed environments that are constantly being improved.
The low player count in Battlefield Portal suggests people either don’t understand its purpose or aren’t interested in using it. Players seem to be prioritizing completing the story campaign or progressing through traditional multiplayer modes instead of exploring the custom game options in Battlefield 6.
Portal will likely be explored by players after they’ve finished with the main game. It’s strange that DICE has said players can earn experience points in any custom game they create. This probably means the platform will initially be flooded with simple ways to quickly gain XP, rather than truly creative content.
