I’ve been playing some amazing video games lately, and honestly, they’re just incredible journeys! What really hooks me is getting lost in the story – whether I’m battling enemies or making tough choices that actually change how things play out. It’s so immersive!
Sometimes, though, games have endings that disappoint players. While these endings can be frustrating, they shouldn’t ruin the fun people had playing the game up to that point.
Mass Effect 3
The Notorious Ending Shouldn’t Take Away From The Game’s Strong Points
Mass Effect 3 concludes the epic sci-fi story of Commander Shepard. Unfortunately, the game is well-known for its controversial ending, which many players felt didn’t adequately reflect the impact of their decisions over the entire trilogy.
While later updates and expansions tried to address problems with the ending, many players still find it disappointing. However, most agree that everything leading up to it is excellent. The Reaper invasion is terrifying, and Shepard needs help from both familiar and new characters to stop it.
Halo 2
The Most Infamous Cliffhanger Ending In Video Game History
Halo 2 is considered one of the best video games of all time, and it significantly expanded the story of Master Chief. A unique feature was the ability to play as the Arbiter, which helped to flesh out the game’s universe and show that not all members of the Covenant were enemies of humanity.
While the game is generally excellent, the cliffhanger ending feels out of place and doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the story. It happens suddenly and doesn’t feel properly set up, which is disappointing considering how good the overall experience is.
Fallout 3
The Hamfisted Ending Made Bethesda’s Writing Problems Clear As Day
Fallout 3 significantly evolved the series, thanks to Bethesda’s expansive open world which vividly brought the ruined landscape of the Capitol Wasteland to life. While the writing wasn’t quite as strong as in earlier Fallout games, the game’s amazing exploration and unforgettable experiences make it a hit for most fans.
The game’s story has some noticeable problems towards the end, particularly when you have to decide how to shut down Project Purity. Even if you use a character who’s immune to radiation – like a robot, ghoul, or super mutant – the game treats you like you’re taking the easy way out. It’s a disappointing conclusion to an otherwise great experience.
Fable 2
An Anti-Climactic Ending After A Wonderful Journey
Fable 2 improves on the original in every way, and players continue to enjoy its fantastical world. In this installment, you play as a hero tasked with saving the world from a cruel and oppressive ruler.
Lucien Fairfax is a compelling leader, and many wondered how to defeat him. The actual way he was defeated – with a single bullet fired by either the heroes or the Reaper – felt surprisingly underwhelming and anticlimactic.
Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor
The Ending Is Unsatisfying, But Doesn’t Take Away From The Other Brilliant Aspects Of The Game
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an excellent game with intense combat inspired by the Batman: Arkham series. Its standout feature, the Nemesis System, lets you battle and dominate orc leaders, creating a really engaging experience.
While the path to the game’s conclusion is fantastic, many players will be let down by the lack of a final boss battle with Sauron. The Tower section focuses more on stealth than a traditional boss fight. For a truly epic conclusion, players should check out *The Bright Lord* DLC, which features a boss battle that lives up to the high quality of the rest of the game.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
A Quality Immersive Sim That Deserved Better Than A Rushed Ending
If you enjoyed the immersive gameplay of previous *Deus Ex* titles, *Mankind Divided* will likely appeal to you. The game is set in Prague, which is a beautifully designed and dynamic city that evolves as you progress through the story, making it one of the best video game hubs ever created.
Despite being a strong game in many ways, *Mankind Divided* left fans feeling unsatisfied with its rushed ending and unresolved story. This highlighted how poorly Square Enix handled the *Deus Ex* franchise, and it appears fans may be waiting a very long time – if ever – for Embracer Group to release a new game in the series.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Turning Joker Into A Big Brute Felt Like A Lazy Way To Cap Off An Otherwise Amazing Experience
*Arkham Asylum* is widely considered one of the greatest superhero games ever made. It proved Rocksteady could revitalize a genre often known for disappointing titles. The game stood out with its excellent voice acting, memorable characters, and uniquely satisfying combat system.
Despite the game’s clever design, the boss battles were frustratingly difficult. The final fight against Titan Joker perfectly illustrates this – it felt poorly planned and didn’t reflect the villain’s complex personality or intelligence.
BioShock Infinite
The Ending’s Notoriety Has Only Grown With Time
Many people once considered *BioShock Infinite* to be almost flawless. Its exciting, quick-moving shooting action combined with a fantastic story guarantees a great experience for players.
The ending is impressively complex, but it doesn’t quite hold up under scrutiny and has several plot inconsistencies. The idea that Comstock would simply cease to exist because Booker died during his baptism doesn’t make logical sense. However, the exciting visuals and fast pace initially impressed many players, masking these flaws.
