Zafari is a hidden boss you can encounter in the game, but only if you progress far enough. She’s special because she doesn’t appear in every playthrough, making her a rare and challenging opponent.

This woman is fiercely protective of her wealth, and if you want to confront her, you’ll have to target her possessions. While it might appear well-hidden at first, her treasure is actually quite easy to locate if you know where to look.

This guide explains how to reach the Bandit Queen, defeat her, and claim your reward. The battle takes place in a confined area, making it challenging, but definitely achievable.

Best Path to Zafari, The Bandit Queen

You’ll find Zafari on the ship immediately after beating The Underking. Getting to her is the same way you went to fight him, since they’re located back-to-back.

To start, head to the bottom right of the first area and destroy the large boulder. After defeating a few enemies, you’ll face the Mushtroll boss, which will reward you with a new ability.

Once you’ve dealt with the Mushtroll, go towards Gazorg by following the lower path from the camp. You can restore your health at the waterfall by hitting and eating the fish there.

Once you’ve defeated Gazorg, drop down into the misty area to enhance your ritual abilities. If you have at least 200 coins remaining, you can purchase another upgrade before challenging The Underking.

Once you’re aboard the ship, go to the rear and look for a door between the staircases. It’s locked, so you’ll need to break the lock to get inside. Once you’re in, you can choose to open the captain’s treasure or leave it untouched.

How to Beat Zafari, The Bandit Queen

The biggest challenge with fighting Zafari is the incredibly tight space – you’re really stuck with nowhere to maneuver. While she isn’t as powerful as Azra, she’s still a formidable opponent in a fight.

The boss’s large weapon and wide-reaching attacks make the arena feel very cramped. Fortunately, the limited space actually makes it easier to land powerful counter-attacks compared to other bosses.

Feel free to bring a friend! If you have 50 coins, you can purchase a companion to join you on the ship before you enter.

Phase One

In the first stage, she uses powerful sweeping attacks and quick dashes to get close to you. While you can block most of these, a few have a slight delay before they hit, so you’ll need to time your blocks carefully.

Dash Slice She dashes in your direction or the direction of an NPC, and after a moment, slices. Deflect or Clash
Spin Move She jumps to one side of the room and spins her weapon, sucking in any characters doing continuous damage on contact with her weapon. She then blasts you to the other side of the room. Dodge or Run

Phase Two

During the second phase, she’ll become more powerful and can keep attacking even while stunned. So, you’ll need to be prepared to defend against her continuous attacks, even if you briefly interrupt her with your own.

During this phase, she only has one new attack. If you’ve built your character well, you can quickly defeat her because she’ll be very aggressive. Like before, I’ve added a video and a table detailing her new attack to help you prepare.

It’s best to wait until during or after a fight to pick up any food you find on the ground. This can help you recover health if your opponent injures you.

Zafari, the Bandit Queen Rewards

Winning this battle will give you a special ability, a large amount of gold based on your luck, and lots of healing items. These rewards will significantly help you continue your journey into either Yeldrim or Jaroba.

Besides all that, you’ll also hear stories from Zafari, which reveal more about the game’s world and characters. Her stories can even hint at hidden secrets, so it’s worth paying close attention when she talks.

Once you’ve defeated her, the entrance to her area will be locked for future attempts. Even if you give her 500 coins, you’ll still need to wait a random amount of time before you can access her cabin and fight her again.
