The patch notes released on October 9th detail the upcoming update for *Borderlands 4*, scheduled for October 16th. This update is particularly significant for players using Vex’s popular ‘Infinite Bleed Build,’ as it will address and fix the issues associated with that strategy.
The recent changes to the Vex build in *Borderlands 4* come after improvements were made to all the playable characters. Players and developers both agreed the Vex build was too powerful, and Gearbox announced they would fix it. They’ve now confirmed the fix will arrive on October 16th.
The October 9th update for Borderlands 4 details upcoming changes next week. Gearbox will be fixing unexpected issues with some Vault Hunter skills and making improvements to various character builds and equipment, including Class Mods, Repkits, Shields, and melee options. These adjustments are largely focused on a particularly powerful combination involving Vex’s Bloodletter Skill and Throwing Knives with the Penetrator Augment, which currently allows for one-hit kills. While the combo’s effectiveness can vary, players can often overcome this with Specialization points and other game mechanics. Gearbox intends to reduce its power, and players should expect a different experience after the next patch.
Vex’s Infinite Bleed Build
- The Bloodletter skill should be maxed out (with Vex’s Class Mods on top of it).
- Players use the Throwing Knife with a Penetrator Augment to trigger enemies.
- Shots thereafter crit and trigger bleed.
- The Contamination Skill goes a long way in making the build more viable and trustworthy.
Vex Players Have a Short Time to Enjoy Her Full Power

Although the planned adjustment is a bit disappointing, Vex’s powerful build was actually weakened by a mistake in the October 2 update. This affected how damage was applied, but didn’t completely ruin the build. Luckily, Gearbox fixed this issue in the October 9 update, restoring the build to its full strength. This means players can enjoy the build at 100% power for the next week, instead of a reduced 90%. If you like how the build currently plays, now is the time to use it as much as possible!

It’s unclear exactly how much the upcoming *Borderlands 4* update will weaken the Vex character, but a lot of players are hoping she isn’t changed too much. The core of the Vex build relies on a rare Throwing Knife, which is difficult to find. I play this build myself, and it took me over 10 hours of playing with friends in co-op, constantly searching, just to get it. Because the game distributes it randomly, there are ways to improve your chances of finding it, but no surefire method, and it’s easy to miss if you aren’t actively looking.
Some players have found that red chests created by the Driller Hole are easier to locate, but finding them still takes a significant amount of time and effort.
Gearbox has adjusted the Infinite Bleed Build to be more balanced compared to other strong character options like Vex, Amon, Rafa, and Harlowe. It should remain a very effective strategy, but not overwhelmingly powerful. Players can enjoy it now and see how it performs after the next update on October 16th.
